Red cabbage

Cold-hardy red cabbage is more resistant to disease and pests. This does not mean at all that cabbage does not require close attention to itself.

Loosening is carried out carefully so as not to sprinkle the apical buds of the plant. Regular loosening at intervals of two weeks will strengthen the cabbage and become the key to a good harvest.

Under unfavorable conditions, you may encounter problems that have been considered for white cabbage.

The dietary delicate leaves of Savoy cabbage form a looser head of cabbage and have a larger surface for moisture evaporation due to their bubbly structure. Therefore, moisture evaporation occurs in it more intensively than, for example, in white cabbage. From this we conclude that Savoy cabbage needs more frequent watering, especially in the first half of the growing season, as well as when planting hardened seedlings in open ground.

For any cabbage, including Savoy cabbage, it is important not to be late with the harvest. Its suitability for consumption is determined by the weight of the formed heads of cabbage, which is determined visually. Heads of cabbage weighing from 0.5 to 2 kg are suitable for harvesting.

If you are late with harvesting, you will have to be content with cracked heads of cabbage.

Considering the tenderness of Savoy cabbage leaves, it is transported in a container where it can be arranged in one row to preserve its presentation.

Cabbage of late varieties is harvested along with the roots, dropping them in containers in closed rooms and stored in this form until December.

Brussels sprouts

Energetically nourishing Brussels sprouts require fertile, manured loam and a nutritional area of at least 60 x 60 cm per plant. Otherwise, its heads of cabbage will be small and loose. A cucumber ridge is perfect for her, along which two-month-old seedlings can be placed.

Cauliflower

The setting and formation of cauliflower heads is strongly influenced by the air temperature, its sharp drops, as well as sharp drops in soil moisture.

If during the period of growth and development of a plant, a temperature of 15 to 20 degrees is needed, then a lower temperature is required for the formation of flower heads, which is different for different varieties and ranges from 5 to 12 degrees.

If the "conception" of the heads coincides with the heat, then they either will not tie at all, or their quality will not suit the vegetable grower.

To make the heads white or light cream in color, and not turn green under the rays of the sun, they should be shaded. This does not require additional materials. You should break a couple of cabbage leaves, covering the heads filling with useful substances with them. Or tie the tops of the leaves so that you get a miniature tent that protects the fruit from the sun.

Slugs are omnivorous pests. But by August, when there is a mass formation of cauliflower heads, they rush into the shade of the covers arranged above the heads to protect them from the sun in order to feast on tender cabbage.
