Many gardeners grow on their plots such an original plant as astilba. Its appearance is incredible and attractive. The flowers of the plant have a luxurious appearance, since the leaves have a double or triple dissected structure. Astilba is characterized by splendor and showiness during the flowering phase. It is worth noting the fact that it can grow even in the constant shade of tall trees. At the same time, the brightness and decorativeness of the inflorescences of the plant is not lost
This flower can steadily and calmly endure even the coldest temperatures that are inherent in the Russian winter seasons. Very rarely, this culture is exposed to all kinds of diseases, since insect pests do not touch and are not interested in this flower. Novice gardeners can easily and easily grow such an elegant and attractive plant on their territory, creating a cozy and peaceful atmosphere.
How is astilbe propagated?
Novice flower growers often grow astilbe on their plots. It is a pleasure to keep such a plant at home, since you will not have to perform any complicated procedures and manipulations.
In astilba, two forms of reproduction are distinguished: the first is seed, the second is vegetative. In the second case, division of the bush or reproduction by means of the kidneys can take place. In the case of the second method, you can try to independently develop new interesting varieties of astilba. In general, the seeds of a flower are contained in its fruits - special capsules. It is they who replace the inflorescences after the end of the flowering phase. Planting material is sown in March, its beginning or middle. But it is worth remembering that astilba seeds require stratification.
In order to correctly and competently carry out this process, you need to place the seeds in a container, the depth of which is approximately fifteen centimeters. There should also be a mixture of peat and sand in equal proportions. Snow should be placed on top, in a layer of one centimeter. While it melts, the soil will be moistened and saturated with useful components. After the snow has completely melted, cover the container with polyethylene film. The seed pot itself is placed in the bottom of the refrigerator for three weeks. This time is enough for the first shoots of Astilbe to appear, which at that time will already be hardened and will be able to endure the subsequent winters. Twenty days after planting, the sprouted astilbe sprouts must be transferred to a new place where enough sunlight enters, and the temperature regime is approximately twenty degrees Celsius.
Watering must be done very carefully and responsibly. For these purposes, it is required to use a syringe without a needle and direct the water jet under the root of the plant. After the sprouts become stronger and more powerful, and also contain two or three leaves in their structure, they will need to be seated in small cups or other containers.
How to plant astilba correctly?
In order to plant astilba outdoors, a gardener does not need to have special skills and a lot of free time. The most important thing here is to choose the most suitable place for the culture. Thus, it is possible to immediately create favorable conditions for its development.
Astilba should be planted outdoors in late spring or early summer. The northern side of the garden area is best suited, where the shadow of tall bushes and trees falls. But still, some varieties of this flower prefer a sunny, lighted area. In the event that there is a reservoir in the garden (and it does not matter, natural or artificial), then astilba must be planted next to it.
As a soil, light loamy and fertile soil types will be ideal. If necessary, components such as dolomite flour or wood ash can be added to the soil. It is worth planting hosts next to astilba, as they will cover the flower from the sun and protect it from hot sun rays in the summer.
Different varieties have different flowering times. For example, if astilba blooms in mid-summer (July), then it is better to plant it in shaded areas. Other varieties can feel comfortable both in good lighting and in dark areas of the garden.
