Probably, a rare person is not touched by flowers, bells. But, among their wide variety, it stands out for its originality, beauty and the hard-to-pronounce name "Large-flowered bellflower." It is distinguished by its amazing decorativeness, while also possessing medicinal properties
Description
The bell can be found on gravelly, rocky slopes; in dry steppes; in the thickets of sparse shrubs of the expanses of Eastern Siberia, as well as in the Far East of our country.
The fleshy white roots of the shirokokolokolchik are similar to the roots of a radish and contain a large amount of milky juice.
Stems, which are not flowering, are covered with sessile, alternate narrow leaves with small or large denticles along the edge. The lower leaves form a basal rosette.
The flowering smooth leafless stem rises to a height of 60 centimeters and ends with a large single flower or paniculate inflorescence of three to five flowers. The flowers are white, sky blue, blue, dark purple. The flower buds resemble small lanterns.
Decorative double and semi-double dwarf varieties of shirokokolokolchik were bred, which could not surpass the natural flower in their beauty. In addition, the ornamental varieties do not have the medicinal properties of their wild relatives.
The fruits are ovoid capsules with shiny seeds.
Growing
Shirokokolokolchik prefers light, fertile well-drained soils, bypassing heavy and damp soils that can create stagnant water. Chooses sunny places, but it can grow in partial shade.
The stems of the plant have a habit of lying down, and therefore sometimes they need supports to support them.
Shirokokolokolchik is propagated by seeds, sowing in spring or autumn directly into open ground. Sowing in greenhouses is possible, but the emerging seedlings are immediately transplanted to a permanent place of residence, since the fragility of the roots does not allow successful transplantation of adult plants. The seeds are in no hurry to germinate, being in the soil sometimes up to one month. The plant pleases the gardener with flowers only in the second year of its life.
Shirokokolokolchik is frost-resistant. For the winter, the surface of the plant is cut off. It is advisable to cover with dry leaves or mulch if a snowless winter is expected.
Application
Shirokokolokolchik gives its spectacular flowers in mid-July and pleases them until September. Its bushes have a bluish bloom, turning them into decorative bluish-green plants that adorn the garden throughout the summer season.
Shirokokolokolchik looks good in borders and goes well with such plants as gypsophila, low phlox, adenophora, in mixborders. Its natural beauty blends harmoniously with the Moorish lawn.
A small curtain of bells will revive the green lawn, decorate the trunks of tall shrubs and trees.
The fragility of the stems of the plant is not an obstacle to cutting the bellflower for flower bouquets, when all the flowers on the stem have revealed the beauty of their large bells.
Healing action
The plant has tonic, tonic, expectorant, anti-asthmatic, sedative, antihelminthic, diaphoretic and astringent properties.
Infusions from the roots help with bronchitis, dysentery, gastritis, headache, cholera, liver cirrhosis, influenza, cardiovascular diseases, scarlet fever, tonsillitis.
Collection and procurement
The roots are dug out in late autumn from three to five-year-old plants.
Harvesting and drying are carried out in the usual way
