Fruit trees in any garden take an important and significant place. The abundance and quantity of the crop here directly depends on the correct implementation of care. This also applies to the plum, which we will talk about today. Old and mature trees are much more demanding for fertilizers than young seedlings. They require a certain composition of fertilizers and the timing of fertilizing. At the same time, at a young age, only spring pruning and timely watering are enough for a plum tree

How should you care for a plum?

Usually, experts advise to carry out procedures in the form of fertilizing plum trees in the spring. It is at this moment that buds form and begin to develop on the plant, which will soon begin to bloom. In addition, fruit ovaries will begin to form in such buds. Watering for the plant is necessary in the spring season, depending on weather conditions and rainfall. In general, watering with forty liters of water per unit of plum tree is considered the norm. However, do not overdo it with this indicator, since sometimes watering and its volume have a relationship with the type of soil.

Plum grows very badly in marsh areas. In such a situation, the seedlings are likely to sour and then die altogether. To prevent this from happening, you will need to follow the basic simple rules for caring for a fruit tree. The soil should always be somewhat moist, and it should also be loosened periodically. After a year has passed since the planting of the plum, the culture will need additional care and diligent hassle. In the autumn period of the year, the plum tree is in a phase of intensive growth and development. Therefore, autumn dressings should be of high quality and abundant. If fertilizers are planned to be applied at the root, then the earth should be dug around the tree to a depth of no more than twenty centimeters.

When are plum fertilizing procedures required?

When the plum has already been planted and is only growing for the first year, no definite and complex care will be required for it. You should not apply nitrogen-based fertilizers to the soil at this time. This is due to the fact that the plant does not consume this substance, due to not very well developed root systems. If there is too much nitrogen in the soil, then such a factor will lead to the growth of the root system by the autumn season. In turn, such a problem can lead the tree to an incorrect reaction, as a result of which the plant will release a lot of new shoots. All of them will not have time to form, which means they will die by winter. However, the plum itself will spend a lot of nutrients on their development, due to which it itself will become weakened. Therefore, in such a situation, it is better to give preference to mixtures of substances such as potassium and phosphorus. They will help the wood to form much earlier.

In the second year of life, the plum tree is very sensitive to nitrogen fertilizers. At this point, foliar feeding is required. It is carried out by means of a solution of urea and water, or with the help of a special preparation "Ideal", which can be bought in specialized stores. Spraying of plants should be carried out during the entire period of the beginning of the first summer month.

Plum fertilization in early May is required when the tree has reached its first year of life. Top dressing lasts until the beginning of the fruiting stage. Fertilize the soil with the same solution (water + urea or the drug "Ideal"). However, in June, instead of urea, you can use another component - nitrophoska. One copy of the seedling will require about thirty liters of the solution ready for fertilization.

Spring dressing for plums

For active growth, the plum tree needs substances in the form of nitrogen, potassium and phosphorus. But magnesium occupies a special place here. In the spring, as a foliar top dressing, you can apply nitrogen fertilizers, consisting of twenty grams of urea, dissolved in ten liters of water. The solution must be thoroughly mixed. This mixture will need to be sprayed on the tree from a spray bottle.

Organic fertilizers are also important for the proper development of the plum. Therefore, in the spring you can add compost, bird droppings or manure to the soil. However, all these substances must be decomposed well in advance, otherwise the nitrogen in these elements will turn into ammonia.
