It's nice when the summer cottage does not look at you with thickets of burdocks and nettles, but spreads under your feet with a soft green carpet of the lawn, on which it is so pleasant to walk barefoot. Having conceived to spread such a carpet, the summer resident has a choice: to break the lawn on his own or roll out a ready-made one, grown by specialized firms?

Many summer residents, as a rule, are very busy people, so they have neither the time nor the desire to spend precious minutes on laying out a green lawn on the site. This is a time-consuming, difficult business and may take more than one summer cottage season. Therefore, in modern gardens, roll lawns appear more and more often, requiring only financial investments and saving the summer resident's time and their own efforts.

The fruit of human ingenuity

Rolled lawns are not created by nature, but are the fruit of hard work and human ingenuity. The cultivation of such a lawn takes from a specialized firm from 1, 5 to 2 years. It is during this period of time that the grass reaches its maturity and is ready to lie like a carpet at your feet.

At the onset of such an important moment in the cultivation of a lawn with the help of special equipment, the lawn "crust" is carefully cut from the ground, on which it has been lovingly nurtured for two years. The cut lawn is carefully and carefully rolled into a roll, preparing for the journey to a new place of residence.

After two weeks of the life of the lawn on your site, you can walk along the emerald lawn without fear of damaging its green grass carpet.

Rolled lawn care

Before transportation, the lawn rolls are not watered, since in this state they endure transport hardships much more successfully. But, after laying the rolled lawn on the pre-prepared soil of your site, it needs daily moderate watering for a week.

Immediately after laying the bales in a new place, for a more successful and faster rooting of the lawn, it is necessary to roll it in with a roller, carefully tamping it across the seams.

When stacking, the rolls must fit tightly to each other so that there are no even minuscule gaps between them, and there are no overlaps from one roll to another.

Pros of a roll lawn

• Sowing lawns are occupied strictly at certain times of the year, namely, in late autumn or spring. The rolled lawn can be rolled out on any day convenient for you during the entire summer season.

• You can enjoy the rolled lawn two weeks after his housewarming, as they say, “here and now,” while the fruits of painstaking work on growing a sowing lawn will be received by you in 2-3 years.

• Record terms of laying a roll lawn do not negatively affect its quality operational characteristics. Such a grass carpet is not inferior to a man-made sowing carpet, demonstrating resistance to trampling, damping out and freezing.

• To create a rolling lawn, firms use the highest quality seeds of elite herbal plants. This ensures that the lawn is thickened immediately after it is laid in a new location. With the correct and proper care of a roll lawn, it retains its density for many years in a row.

• The roll lawn is not afraid of weeds, because there is simply no room for them in the dense growth of grasses.

• Rolled lawns require daily watering only in the first week after installation in order to more confidently adapt to the new location. In the future, watering is carried out as needed. The sowing lawn requires careful and accurate watering, so as not to wash away the weak and delicate shoots, within 3-4 weeks after sowing.

Choosing a roll lawn

According to the composition of grasses, lawns are:

• Elite - contains 90-100 percent bluegrass, creating a prestigious look for the site.

• Parks - Contains 90-100 percent fescue, highlighting the beauty of your flower and horticultural crops.

• Versatile - Contains 20 percent fescue and 80 percent bluegrass and lets you lie on the silky, aromatic grass.

What to look for when buying a lawn

• The color of the front side should be uniform and deep green.

• The color of the roots on the inside should be white, indicating a young age of the grass.

• The shelf life of the roll is only 7 hours in hot weather and 5 days in cool weather.

• Only a high-quality roll will not suffer damage from several folds and unrolls.

• The thickness of the sod must be uniform throughout the bale and must be at least 15-20 mm. Oddly enough, the thicker the layer of the roll, the worse it takes root.
