Think bells only grow in the forest? But no! They are successfully grown in room culture so that their delicate airy shoots, generously strewn with multi-colored buds, become an exquisite decoration of houses and apartments
Intricate outlines of the indoor bell
One of the main differences between indoor bells and those plants that we are used to seeing in the forest is that their stems are creeping and hanging. They can be grown as ampelous plants so that the shoots can flow down nicely along the pot and supply. They also look very beautiful if you install a support in the pot - then it is easy to give them beautiful volumetric vertical shapes, similar to the intricate hairstyles of the ladies of the court at the French court of Louis XIV.
Depending on the variety, indoor bells can open their buds both in the autumn-winter period and in the spring-summer time. In indoor culture, the bellflower blooms from March to June. At this time, it is covered with a huge variety, up to a hundred pieces, white with a barely perceptible pink bloom or dull blue flowers. For such an unusual appearance among the people, he is also known under the romantic name "bride".
The brittle bellflower does not form blue and purple buds so generously, but its flowering period is much longer - on average, it can bloom for about six months: from March to August. The leaves of the bells are very delicate, emerald green. Let's take a closer look at these popular indoor types.
Bellflower
The homeland of the equifolia bell is the coast of southern Italy, and therefore this plant has both indoor and garden forms. It is not difficult to distinguish between them. In the open air, bells are grown, with smooth, small, heart-shaped leaves. As a room form, plants with larger leaf plates covered with finest hairs are cultivated.
Nutrient substrate for bells is made up of:
• compost (greenhouse humus is also suitable) - 3 parts;
• deciduous land - 1 part;
• sand - 1 part.
Plants do not tolerate summer heat and direct sunlight. To help them these days, the bells need to be watered more abundantly than usual. In addition, the pots need to be shaded, and, if possible, moved to the windows that face the north side.
Propagation of a bellflower can be performed in any season of the year, but early spring is best suited for this, when the thermometer outside the window is set at about + 10 ° С. The cuttings are planted in small pots and covered with glass jars. In the summer, they will already need larger containers. The optimal diameter of such a pot will be about 9-11 cm.
You can not be afraid to plant lignified long shoots. Before planting, all leaves must be removed from them. In this case, you do not need to use the bank. Plants planted in this way will be able to bloom for the first time in the summer months.
Brittle bell
The brittle bell came to us from sunny Sicily. It has very thin long stems, on which medium-sized leaves on long petioles are alternately arranged. Its entire structure gives the impression of a very fragile and airy plant.
The brittle bell is recommended to be propagated by seeds. It is grown with equal success both in the garden and indoors. Crops are made in a container with a nutrient substrate in the second half of winter. When the seedlings get stronger, they can be dived into shallow bowls, and then, when they grow up, into 9-centimeter pots or beds.

Rhubarb: Not Tops, Not Roots, But Petioles
While fruit trees and shrubs are just beginning to bloom and form tight ovaries, those who grow rhubarb in their garden harvest thick juicy petioles in May. It would seem that such a special thing can be prepared from these strange huge sticks? If you have never tasted rhubarb before, be sure to cook compote with it, make dumplings or bake a pie. Believe me, having tried it once, you will be glad that rhubarb is a perennial plant, and in the next 7-10 years it will give more
Black Currant: Small, But Removed
Black currant, unlike its red and white sisters, is famous for half the yield. If the harvest of bright colored berries reaches 8 kg from one bush, then a rare black currant bush will yield more than 4 kg. However, compared to others, black is so useful to the human body that low yields are more than compensated for by the invaluable strength inside each berry. This is exactly the case when you can say "small spool, but weighty"
They Sowed Sweet Peppers, But Collected Bitter Ones
Surely, every summer resident will at first glance distinguish sweet vegetable peppers, which are stuffed, used for salads, put in borscht and soups, from bitter spicy, which serves as a spicy seasoning for various dishes. Imagine the surprise of inexperienced gardeners when, having planted seeds and harvested sweet pepper, it tastes bitter than bitter! How did such a miracle happen?
