This means that tea with black currant will be much more effective in the fight against colds and flu than a drink with lemon. The virus dies in an acidic environment, however, the power of currants helps not only defeat the causative agent of the disease, but also significantly alleviate the symptoms: pacify the cough, soften the sore throat.

It is best to harvest currants raw, mashed with sugar. So it will best preserve its beneficial qualities and healing properties. You should start harvesting only on a fine day. Currants will be much worse stored if harvested after watering or in a rainy season. When it is planned to make preparations for the winter, the berries on the branches should be clean and dry.

It is better to plan the time for working with the bush in the morning or evening hours, so that it is not too sunny outside. But do not start this too early or at night, when there is still dew on the leaves or is already gathering.

Currant storage

Buckets or other deep containers are not suitable for harvesting. To prevent the berries from crumbling, while working with a bush, they are folded in a thin layer in baskets and trays. Any wide boxes will do. For example, bags for long-term storage of milk with a cut-off side wall.

Do not leave berries in the open air for a long time, especially on a hot day. For a while, the crop can be left in the shade, but as soon as a convenient opportunity arises, you immediately need to remove the trays in a cool room, refrigerator or basement.

Harvesting currants, rubbed with sugar, must be done in such an amount that they can be consumed within six months. If the gardener boasts a huge harvest, it is better to preserve the berries for longer storage. Some of the raw currants can be frozen - fresh summer berries are a great decoration for baking in the middle of cold winter.
