Problems with growing garlic - many gardeners may face the fact that they will not get the harvest of garlic they originally counted on. You can talk about the medicinal and beneficial properties of garlic for a very long time, because it not only helps against colds, but also can have a beneficial effect on vision.

To get a decent harvest, it is necessary not only to take timely measures to combat pests and various diseases, but also to properly care for garlic. Recommended for growing humus-rich soils: loamy and sandy loam. It should be noted that garlic cannot be planted in the places where potatoes previously grew, because from this plant, garlic can become infected with such a disease as fusarium. Sometimes a nematode can spread from potatoes to garlic. Annual herbs are the optimal precursor for a plant like garlic.

Of course, for planting, you need to choose an exceptionally healthy material, which must be carefully examined. The bulbs should be divided into cloves a couple of days before planting. Planting depth of this plant should be approximately eight centimeters. It is also necessary to cultivate the soil before planting in a couple of days. Mineral fertilizers should be used even before planting, just like phosphorus-potassium fertilizers. Nitrogen fertilizers are suitable as top dressing. As for the amount of mineral fertilizers, this should be calculated based on the planned harvest of garlic. Garlic is responsive to organic and mineral nutrition. In autumn, when processing the soil, either humus or compost will be introduced.

There should be a fairly large distance between the rows of garlic, of course, it all depends on the area of your site. The teeth should be positioned when planting, depending on their size: the largest ones should be at least eight centimeters apart from each other, and a distance of five centimeters will be enough for the smaller teeth. After planting, mulching should be done with peat or humus. Such a layer should be at least one and a half centimeters, and it is better if this layer is two centimeters. Actually, such measures will help the garlic develop correctly, and in early spring the soil will warm up better. The accumulated heat will remain in the soil, this circumstance will also help prevent the formation of a crust.

The growth of garlic begins in early spring, at which time the snow has not melted yet. Around the end of March, fertilizing with nitrogen fertilizers should be carried out. Then you need to loosen the aisles to a depth of approximately four centimeters. In the future, it is recommended to perform shallow loosening of the row spacings, weeds should be weeded, as well as periodic feeding and watering the garlic regularly. When the laying of the cloves begins, fertilizing with mineral fertilizers should be performed. Arrows will appear in garlic already in June. In the event that it is not planned to use air bulbs as planting material, they should be removed when they reach a length of about ten centimeters.

It is most intensively necessary to water the garlic in May and June. However, the watering rate can be reduced if there is a lot of rainfall at this time. Actually, the need for moisture is great during the growing season, in its first half. The period of intensive growth of the bulbs also needs active watering. Because the root system is rather poorly developed, therefore, such a volume of moisture is needed. Two weeks before you are going to harvest, you should completely stop watering the garlic. It should be noted that drip irrigation of this plant makes the effect of fertilizers more noticeable and intense. And the fertilizers themselves will also contribute to the correct absorption of water by this plant.
