The perennial groundcover called Clover has other names as well. In Russia we call it affectionately "porridge", the British call it "bee's bread". All these names were presented to clover for a reason, because it feeds bees, cows, and knowledgeable people around the world actively use it in their diet
Nitrogen fixer
As a member of the legume family, clover has the ability of this family to retain mobile nitrogen, which is necessary for plants to grow and build up green mass. On the roots of clover there are so-called "nodules" - a special kind of swelling that provide shelter for special bacteria. Bacteria capture free nitrogen from the air and soil and, turning it into a form convenient for plant nutrition, feed the plants.
This property of clover is actively used by summer residents, who do not like to use chemicals to enrich the soil with nitrogen, but plow clover along with other legumes, using them as a green fertilizer to fertilize the soil. On the soil prepared in this way, vegetables are grown, especially those that love nitrogen.
Bee bread
Clover is a plant with a special character. Its only natural pollinators are bees and bumblebees. He is "too tough for the rest of the insects," or rather, "too tough for the proboscis." Clover flowers are an excellent honey plant. Moreover, clover honey is considered one of the best. It has a very delicate taste and delicate aroma. The initial transparency of honey turns into a white solid mass over time.
A treat of childhood and cows
Bees are not the only ones who love to feast on the nectar of clover flowers. Who among us in childhood has ever tasted the sweet nectar of small porridge flowers!
They love clover and cows. But wet clover causes bloating in them, which can end very sadly, that is, the loss of the family's breadwinner. Therefore, driving out the herd in the morning, experienced shepherds do not drive the cows to areas where the dew from the fragrant heads of clover has not yet dried.
Clover cooking
Clover is one of the edible wild plants traditionally used in the culinary arts of many peoples of the world.
A rather heady wine is made from pink clover. Dried flowers are brewed as a tea, which can help treat diseases such as asthma, bronchitis and whooping cough.
Clover flowers added to salads look very elegant. They look especially good in potato salad. Dense heads of clover inflorescences perfectly hold batter, and therefore are suitable for the original dish "clover in batter".
Clover leaves are also good for food. For example, American Indians cooked clover leaves in the manner of spinach.
Pickled clover flowers
Vegetable and fish dishes can be supplemented with an original garnish of pickled clover flowers, pleasantly surprising your friends and family.
For pickling, in addition to the collected heads of clover flowers, you will need apple or wine vinegar, honey or sugar. For every 100 ml of vinegar, 1 tablespoon of honey is needed. If sugar is used instead of honey, then it is laid interspersed with layers of flowers.
Fill the pink and white clover heads with vinegar and honey, or vinegar, if sugar has already been added, and insist them for at least a week. Put it on a plate as a side dish.
Healing properties
Red meadow clover is a natural antibiotic that helps the human body fight many ailments. It is believed to be effective in treating any type of cancer by stopping the growth of tumors.
It has a healing effect, both on internal organs (cleans the blood, inhibits the spread of infections, treats tuberculosis), and relieves ulcers on the body, from fungal diseases on the legs.
Clover fills the body with energy, strengthens the nervous system.
