Plants are irreplaceable attributes of summer cottage life. It is in search of oxygen, bright aromas and colors that people go out of town. There are many options for arranging a garden, but the main inhabitants of a summer cottage are flower beds and flower beds.

An interesting solution for the arrangement of the site is the idea of creating a spice garden. Spicy herbs not only have an attractive appearance and exude a wonderful aroma, but are also endowed with a lot of useful properties. A herb garden can be compared to an ornamental vegetable garden, which is a beautifully planted vegetable crop. Such a spicy vegetable garden will not only decorate the site, but also become a supplier of healthy and fragrant herbs to the table. In the Middle Ages, spices and herbs were valued so highly that their value was equal to gold. Therefore, it is very wise to grow green "gold" outside the window.

Choosing a place for setting up a garden

Most herbs love light, so sunny lawns are great. It is advisable to place mini-gardens with such herbs near the house, near a gazebo or patio, so it will be convenient to use them. Along the paths, you can build the so-called mixborders, which will consist of herbs. However, it is worth remembering that most of these plants exude a strong smell, in most cases pleasant, but not always appropriate. Near romantic gazebos, you should not plant herbs with a pungent smell, such as wild garlic or coriander; mint or lemon balm can replace them. But the sharp spicy smells will perfectly fit near the places for grilling and picnics.

The style of the herb garden

In order for a spicy garden to fit into the overall style, you should decide on the design. For a plot equipped in a landscape style, the basis of which is natural motives, a riot of greenery and colors, there are many design options. For such a garden, the main task is maximum naturalness. These can be classic flower beds, where spicy plants are planted in a hierarchy from low, spreading in the foreground to high in the background. Also, herbs can be planted randomly near large stones and driftwood.

For the construction of a spicy garden on a site equipped with a regular style, which is characterized by rigor, geometricity, accuracy of lines and restraint, you can build a simple and uncomplicated garden. These can be square areas in which herbs are matched in color and size, or planted in the form of geometric patterns.

The "country" or rural style, which is so fond of the Russian people, goes well with the layout of flower beds with spicy plants. These can be ordinary spice beds. Also, these herbs can be planted in pots and flowerpots, which can be located throughout the area of the site.

Selection of spicy plants

Perennial herbs are the basis of a spicy vegetable garden. They grow in one place for about 4-5 years, and in early spring, when nature has not yet awakened, they are the first to delight the eye with their greenery. These plants include: lemon balm (leaves have a spicy taste and light lemon aroma), peppermint (appreciated for its high content of essential oil), medicinal rosemary (has a spicy taste with bitterness, is part of many spicy compositions), creeping thyme or thyme (used in the preparation of almost any dish, is included in herbal tea), cumin (an excellent seasoning for meat dishes, improves digestion and stimulates the appetite), tarragon or tarragon (used for making pickles, contains essential oils, vitamins, has a slight diuretic effect).

Perennial grasses are planted at a distance from each other. These plants grow quite quickly, and in the intervals between them are planted annual spicy-aromatic herbs such as basil (it has many types, is especially popular in the Caucasus, is used for cooking meat, fish and vegetable dishes, vinegar is infused from twigs), coriander (leaves have a very strong odor, coriander seeds are added to bread, crushed seeds are used for cooking meat dishes), anise (has a pungent smell and taste, is used to make medicines, tinctures, and is used in cooking).

Most spicy plants are combined with each other. Thanks to them, you can create interesting and unique dishes, herbal preparations and medicines. A herb garden is a godsend for the gardener. Many of the spicy plants take root well and are not a big deal. And most of them have not only a lot of useful properties, but also delight the eye with their decorativeness and beauty.
