Peat tablets greatly simplify the gardener's worries about growing vegetables. Of course, this method of obtaining seedlings is more costly. However, it frees up another useful resource - the time that is used to prepare the soil mixture, and then eliminates the need for picking. And the latter is especially important for those crops that are experiencing with great difficulty any manipulations with the root system at the early stages of development - pepper, eggplant. If finances and experience do not yet allow the use of peat tablets to obtain a large number of seedlings, this invention can be used to germinate some particularly valuable seeds. What is the right way to deal with these gardener's assistants?

How to choose peat tablets

For those who are not yet familiar with the practice of growing seedlings in peat tablets, the first experience is not always successful. And often this is due to the fact that in the desire to save money, a cheaper product is chosen, in which no mineral fertilizers were added or peat of not the highest quality was used.

Therefore, when buying peat tablets, you need to carefully study the composition of the product. Its high quality is evidenced by such a set of ingredients, where, in addition to peat, there is vermicompost, dolomite flour, micronutrients. It is good if the mixture contains different types of peat.

You also need to pay attention to the indication of what is the purpose of the selected product. Individual manufacturers write in the instructions whether the tablets are intended for growing flowers or seedlings of vegetables, and so on. In extreme cases, it can be some kind of universal product.

Preparation of peat tablets for sowing

In addition to the general packaging, each tablet is individually wrapped from a special mesh. You don't need to take it off. This is a biodegradable material, and then it will be possible to plant plants in the garden right with it.

Dry tablets are placed in a container with high sides. A plastic container with a lid is suitable for this. In the center of each peat disc there is a small indentation for the seed. It is tedious to lay the washers on the bottom so that this hole "looks" up.

Peat discs are placed on the bottom of the container in one layer. After that, water is added to the container. For 10 tablets, you need about a glass of water. Washers come in different diameters, and this parameter must also be adjusted when determining the required volume of liquid.

It is recommended to take warm water. It is necessary to pour carefully, do not pour the tablets from above - it is better to carefully distribute the water with a stream from the teapot along those "grooves" that have formed along the peat "islands". After that, the tablets will begin to grow, absorbing the liquid and turning into columns. The height of each such seedling cup increases on average by about 5-7 times. This process takes only a few minutes. If the peat cup has already formed, and all the water has not been absorbed, it is better to drain it.

After sowing, the container is covered with a lid or placed in a transparent plastic bag. Caring for such crops consists in moistening peat tablets and regular ventilation. For watering, it is better to use a spray bottle or add water to the bottom of the container.

Experts recommend sowing in peat tablets only with germinated seeds. The baked seed is more likely to sprout, and the peat tablet will not be wasted. It will also be a good choice when sowing expensive granular seeds. If the seed was not germinated in advance, and you do not experience a shortage of it, you can take a couple of seeds for each pill for safety net. When shoots appear, the weaker specimen is simply cut off with scissors.
