A wide range of varietal daffodils, which are among the first to bloom in spring, can turn the garden into a blooming multi-colored meadow

At first, flowers with a yellow bud traditionally bloom, later they are replaced by white or white-yellow varieties, as an option, you can provide yourself with a spring mood by growing daffodils with fragrant flowers right at home in a flower pot. The technology for growing this flower at home is similar to that used for planting flowers in open ground, and you will also need to care for the plant in the same way as caring for garden daffodils.

When caring for daffodils, you should always remember that the tubers of this perennial bulbous plant contain alkaloids - this poison of plant origin, can cause an eating disorder or heart failure, adversely affect the condition of the skin - so direct contact of the bulb with the hands is prohibited. It is enough to use cotton hand gloves to protect yourself from the poison.

Growing and caring

As for the cultivation of flowers, it is enough to plant the bulb in the ground so that every spring you can admire the flowering buds, and every year the bulb will divide more and more, and the plant will grow. If you want to achieve the most lush flowering of the plant, then you should choose a planting site in a sunny place or in partial shade. The requirements for the soil are as follows - the soil must have good water permeability, which will exclude stagnant water. Otherwise, the bulbs will be affected by the basal rot fungus - and you will have to get rid of them, since such a fungus is incurable. If the soil in the flower garden is heavy, clayey, then it makes sense to make a sandy pillow to improve drainage.

When caring for daffodils, it is important to cut the stem off after the buds have faded so the plant does not waste energy. If the seeds are still needed, then it makes sense to leave a few boxes so that the quality of the seeds is at their best, although the bulb in this case will still be weaker. As for the leaves, it is not recommended to remove the drying leaves - this is a general recommendation for all bulbous ones, even if the plant does not look aesthetically pleasing in this form. When all the castings are dead, the plants can be mulched, which will protect the bulbs from negative weather factors.

With good care, the flowers grow quickly - a hat of dense foliage looks beautiful, but there is not enough space underground for the bulbs, so the flowers grow smaller and smaller - planting the bulbs every 3-5 years can save the day.

The transplant is carried out all autumn until the first frost in early October - the bulb must be buried at a distance 3 times its height. If there is a desire to create a natural garden, then the planting material can be deepened even more.

As for growing a plant in a pot, a lush flower arrangement can be obtained if the bulbs are planted in a checkerboard pattern, while the depth of the deepening should also differ. When the flower withers, the stem must be cut off, and the pot with withered foliage must be removed to the garden or any other place from the windowsill - until next spring, the daffodil will not look presentable.

If true daffodils bloom only in spring, then hybrid varieties can provide flowering until June. So when choosing plants, you should pay attention to the flowering time, so that the flower bed is decorated with flowering buds for a long time from February to early August. Gardeners love this flower because it starts to bloom even when the snow hasn't melted yet, which immediately creates a spring mood. So that the flower bed does not seem naked after the buds have faded, it is worth finding a place for them next to perennials with lush foliage - the leaves will be covered by wilting daffodils, which will not spoil the landscape or the flower garden with their appearance. Also, daffodils are well combined with other bulbous plants that bloom in spring - these can be tulips, hyacinths, crocuses, hellebore, etc. Daffodils look just as impressive next to primroses, pansies, lungwort and other spring-flowering plants. Thus, you can create the most spectacular and vibrant flower arrangements with these attractive plants.
