Narcissus brandy (lat. Narciss bulbocodium) (its second name is Corbularia bulbocodium) belongs to the Amaryllis family, genus Narcissus. This flower culture can be found on the slopes of rocks in many parts of the largest continent in the world - Eurasia. This plant is especially common in France, Portugal, Spain, Algeria and China.
Characteristics of culture
Daffodil is characterized by small inflorescences with a long tube-shaped, narrowed at the base, a crown of yellow or beige color with anthers extending beyond it. Small segments of the perianth in the amount of six pieces of a yellow-green hue, tightly wrapped around the base of the crown. 2-4 narrow, green, long, basal leaves are arranged around a light green peduncle. The stem of this plant species reaches a maximum of 15 centimeters. The bulbs are small, brown in color, resembling a miniature pear in shape.
The subtleties of growing
Brandy daffodil belongs to the sun-loving plants, therefore, for proper growth, it needs intense lighting. The area where this type of plants will be planted should be sunny, well protected from the wind, with high soil moisture. The soil for planting this flower culture should be prepared in early summer, or at least a month before planting the tubers.
Daffodils are not capricious, they can grow on soil of different qualities, but for abundant flowering and proper development, it is better to plant the plants in light and fertile soil. The selected plot of land can be saturated with useful substances in advance by adding compost or humus to it. When ennobling the site for planting flowers, it must be remembered that daffodils cannot tolerate manure, so it is better not to use this fertilizer when preparing the soil.
Breeding features
Brandy daffodils reproduce vegetatively or by seeds. Seed propagation takes a very long time, therefore, in horticultural culture, the most relevant is the vegetative method, that is, with the help of bulbs. For the reproduction of this type of plant, it is necessary to gradually separate the babies from the mother's bulb. With each season, peaks grow on the flower tuber, and during the growing season they separate. After two to three years, the scales of the bulb that unite the tops die off, after which it becomes possible to divide the nest of the mother bulb and extract the daughter ones.
Landing
The most comfortable time for planting Narcissus branusiformis tubers is in the second decade of August and until the end of September. Before planting the bulbs, they need to be carefully examined, if there are damage or stains, they should be removed, and the sections should be disinfected. Having examined and processed the bulbs, you can start planting. The tubers of the daffodil species in question are planted to a depth of no more than 4-5 centimeters. In order for the flowering to look beautiful and spectacular, several bulbs need to be planted in one hole, since the plant is small and, with a rare planting, it can be hardly noticeable. This flower culture is considered quite frost-resistant, but as a preventive measure, in case of severe frosts, it is better to carefully cover the tubers in order to avoid their death.
Care
The branus daffodil is a moisture-loving plant, therefore, during flowering and a few weeks after it, the plant needs to be well watered. It is necessary to carefully monitor the moisture content of the soil, if it becomes too swampy, the tubers may begin to rot. After the plant has matured, the main care can be reduced to periodic weeding and removal of unhealthy and wilted inflorescences. In order to keep the bulbs healthy, and as a prophylaxis for various diseases, all wilted inflorescences must be removed before the formation of seeds, since most of the nutrients are consumed by the plant to ripen the seeds.
