Types and varieties of orchids

Modern flower growers are very fond of growing a charming orchid in their homes and apartments. This indoor flower has a truly royal look, charm and indescribable beauty. The decorativeness of the plant is explained by its interesting origin, because it was transferred to us from such corners of the world as the Philippines, Australia, southeast Asia … About seventy of the most diverse forms of this culture grow in the wild. Between themselves, they have differences in color shades, dimensions and shape

There are also very white delicate varieties of orchids, and magical dark purple plants. At the moment, breeders are constantly developing new varieties of this flower culture, creating interesting ornaments on their inflorescences (for example, tiger, speckled) and evenly distributed tones, striking in contrast.

The two main types of orchids

Absolutely all orchid flowers can be divided into two main types: monopodial and sympodial. The latter are characterized by numerous shoots that grow horizontally and connect to the root systems.

After a certain period of time, orchid seedlings turn into pseudobulbs, which can accumulate the moisture and useful microelements necessary for the flower. Monopodial orchids are flowers that have one stem and several flowering details in their structure. By the way, they are formed in the leaf axils. Micronutrients are stored here only in large and thick leaf plates. Each type of orchid prefers its own form of development and cultivation. Also, the rules for caring for them are different.

Popular varieties of orchids

Aganizia is one of the rarest orchid varieties. Its infrequent use in floriculture is primarily due to laborious and very troublesome cultivation. The orchid is a very capricious plant that is very demanding on the conditions of keeping. You can distinguish aghanizia from other varieties of orchids by the unusual appearance of leaf plates and inflorescences. The first ones are presented in the form of an ellipse, forming on a short stem.

The main part of the culture is covered with scales, the structure of which is characterized by small size and dryness. Flower buds are formed in the upper area of the peduncle, which has the shape of an arc. Five to ten colors are formed on one element. They have the shape of stars and different shades of blue and blue colors (less often - lilac). The type of variety plays an important role here. During the flowering phase, aganizia is odorless. She also lacks a resting phase.

Angrekum Leonis is an orchid that flower growers like due to the unusual shape of flowers and a pleasant aroma. The color of the inflorescences captivates with its tenderness and romance. The flower can be completely snow-white or transform into an ivory shade.

Distinctive features of the plant can be considered sickle-shaped leaves and long flowering elements with two or three flowers on each of them. The inflorescences themselves are rather large in size. Their diameter is eight to nine centimeters. The petals are characterized by a waxy texture.

Phalaenopsis is known to any experienced florist, as it is the most popular orchid for growing at home. This variety feels great in any room, due to which it is less demanding on conditions compared to other types of orchids. If you properly and efficiently care for the phalaenopsis, then such a tropical plant can grow and delight its owner for up to six to seven years. The appearance of inflorescences can be compared with the shape and beauty of butterflies. Phalaenopsis is popularly called a butterfly orchid.
