Unpretentious care makes flax a wonderful crop for cultivation in summer cottages. In recent years, its popularity has grown equally among novice hobbyists and experienced gardeners. How to grow planting material, properly care for plants?
Reproduction
There are two ways to increase the amount of planting material:
• seed;
• vegetative (dividing the bush).
Both methods equally produce high-quality seedlings with the inheritance of all the characteristics of the culture. Let's take a closer look at each of the options.
Seed method
Initially, the seeds are purchased in gardening shops, in the future you can collect your own annual "harvest".
Indoor flax planting gives a "run" in time. By autumn, quite fluffy adult bushes grow from such seedlings. At the end of March, boxes with fertile loose soil are prepared, not forgetting about the drainage holes (plants do not like stagnant water). Grooves are cut every 5-6 cm. The embedment depth is not more than 5 mm.
Spill with water, spread the seeds at a distance of 0.5-1 cm in a row. Sprinkle with soil, lightly compact from above by hand, for better adhesion to the planting material. Cover with foil.
When shoots appear, the shelter is gradually removed. Watered once a week, if necessary, with a weak solution of potassium permanganate. They are fed monthly with complex fertilizer "Zdraven". The grown seedlings dive immediately to a permanent place.
In early spring, flax is cultivated in seedling beds. In the fall, they prepare the soil for sowing. Scatter compost, sand, complex fertilizer nitroammofosku over the surface. Dig up, choosing weeds. Arcs are put.
In the spring (April-May), the ridges are harrowed, grooves are cut every 10-15 cm. The seeds are laid out with a distance of 1 cm in a row. Sprinkle with 0.5 cm layer of earth. Pour water over from a watering can. Cover the arcs with a film or non-woven material. Care is similar to home cultivation.
Grown up seedlings 5 cm high dive into flower beds. Young growth blooms in the second year.
Vegetative method
It is used in early spring on plants of 4-5 years of age, where the volume of shoots is more than 15 stems. The bushes are dug out completely. With a sharp knife, cut into sections with 4-5 buds, part of the root.
The slices are sprinkled with crushed coal. Transferred to a permanent place. For the first 2 weeks, the plants are shaded from direct sunlight with non-woven fabric or old buckets without a bottom. Keep the substrate moist.
Landing
In early June, prepared seedlings are planted in flower beds. Wells are formed with a depth of 20 cm, at a distance of 25 cm from each other. The holes are filled with loose fertile soil mixed with sand and humus. Sprinkle with water. The young growth is carefully placed in the center, trying to disturb the root system less.
Sprinkle with a layer of soil, crushing the ground around the bushes. Mulch with straw cutting, sawdust to retain moisture.
Care
Sparse watering during dry periods will help flax to show abundant flowering. The culture is fed 2 times per season: in early spring when the buds wake up, before the buds open. Use complex mineral fertilizers or herbal infusions with the addition of a superphosphate matchbox to a bucket of solution.
High varieties with a rare standing of plants will require the first years of support in the form of an iron or wooden rod, a garter with twine. In the future, the number of stems increases significantly. They support each other perfectly without additional intervention.
In the spring, cut off last year's dried shoots at ground level, trying not to damage the waking seedlings. Weeds weed out all season, superficially loosen the soil after watering.
