Conditions for cultivation

Moreover, it was found that the plant tolerates a drop in air temperature to -7 ° C. The culture is shade-tolerant, therefore it develops well in the lacy shade of garden trees and shrubs. Sorrel is a moisture-loving plant, but does not like excess moisture, as well as wetlands.
The soil for sorrel is suitable for loamy, high-quality fertilized: for this, 1 square meter. make at least 10 kg of manure or humus. Sorrel grows well in acidic soils. Excellent sites for planting it will be those where potatoes or cabbage were placed last season.
Sowing dates for sorrel
Sorrel can be sown in three periods:
• in early spring;
• summer;
• in the fall before winter.
The best choice is to sow seeds in July-August. With this method, the grass will root well in the fall, and after overwintering, it will give the best harvest, spreading out with a strong rosette of succulent leaves. A bountiful harvest can be harvested at least twice in one season. The first leaf cut is harvested in May.
The other two methods provoke the formation of a large number of flower stems, which causes a decrease in the yield of green mass. With winter crops, the harvest begins in the second half of June, and with early spring crops - in the middle of summer.
Sorrel breeding
To stimulate seedlings, sowing is recommended to be done with wet seeds. Sowing rate - about 7 g per 1 square meter. It is more convenient to care for sorrel in a garden bed about a meter wide. Rows are made on it at a distance of about 20 cm from each other with holes no more than 2 cm deep.
Sorrel shoots become visible on the ground after about 2 weeks from the day of sowing the seeds. If they are thickened, they must be thinned out so that at least 5 cm remains in the row between the rosettes.
Crop care consists in regular loosening of the soil and weeding of weeds. Ripe greens are cut at a height of at least 3 cm from the ground - this will preserve both the bud and young leaves. It is better to do this in the morning hours, but after the dew has melted. This wisdom allows you to keep fresh greens longer. The crop can be eaten immediately, but preparations for the winter are also made from sorrel, which are used in the cold season to prepare various dressings.
The re-crop will be ready for cutting after about 3 weeks. Liquid fertilizing with nitrogen-potassium fertilizers will help in the formation of a new batch of greens.
