Moorish lawn decoration

Many summer residents and gardeners independently create landscape designs on their site. Thus, the territory acquires a certain style and attractiveness. However, gardeners also make a lot of mistakes. For example, now you can find many areas where flowers, shrubs and trees are simply planted. But after all, lawns also play an important role in the garden

Summer residents avoid their presence on the territory because of the majority opinion about how difficult and long it is to grow lawn grass. But there is a very simple and correct way out of this situation - sowing the lawn area not with grass, but with a mixture of flowers, which will delight with its brightness and sophistication. This element of garden decoration is called a Moorish lawn. Such lawns can have one color or variegated structure, depending on the wishes of the owner of the site. Typically, a mixture for a bright Moorish lawn includes about thirty or forty plants of a meadow nature.

About the Moorish lawn

The Moorish lawn received such an unusual name from the Moors, back in the distant VIII century. Then, as a result of endless wars and the struggle for territory, the nomadic way of life, thanks to the mixing of Arab and European cultures, and there was such a type of lawn as the Moorish. Nomads from Europe immediately brought the idea of such a design of garden plots to their native lands.

Thus, in Europe, instead of trimmed green lawns, bright and variegated carpets of meadow flowers began to appear. They do not require careful maintenance and delight the owners and guests of the garden with the naturalness and natural appearance of the natural landscape. The Mauritanian lawn has a lot of significant advantages, among which a wide area of use stands out, since such elements can be placed even on too dry or wet soils. Flower mixtures for Moorish lawns are inexpensive. The only information that the owner of a plot with a Moorish lawn needs is the timing of the flowering phase of each type of plant, cereal and flower crop from the selected composition.

Flowers and plants for a Moorish lawn

Very often, Moorish lawns are located in the lowlands. In such a situation, it is advisable to use anise, lemon balm or mint as flowers and plants on it. Moorish lawns on the hills will look spectacular and noble if they are planted with flowers with pronounced aromas to attract bees and butterflies. Then the garden will constantly have a "living" view of real nature.

In spring, bulbous plants bloom on such a lawn. At the same time, some field crops will only give small shoots. In the summer season, you can notice the wilting of early flowers, however, it will still be invisible due to the flowering of new crops. In the event that a novice gardener decides to create a Moorish lawn on the site, it is better for him to try using a homogeneous mixture of herbs for the first time. Then it will not be difficult to take care of such a component of the territory. A multi-component flower mixture of a Mauritanian lawn requires stable, albeit not very difficult, care in the form of weeding the soil from weeds. One of the popular elements of the Moorish lawn, often used by landscape designers, is a mixture of thyme and carnations.

Purchase of mixtures for the Mauritanian lawn and their own creation

In modern stores, mixtures for planting on Mauritanian lawns are of low cost. But experienced summer residents recommend giving preference to domestic seed producers. At the same time, there is the option of self-creation and selection of a flower and plant mixture. In general, it is believed that a Moorish lawn should consist of only a fifth of its flowers. The rest of the filling must contain grains and crops. Thus, the mixture is planted at the rate of ten grams per square meter of land area. Sowing the Moorish lawn begins in the first months of spring. You need to choose bright sunny areas as a place.

Cons of the Moorish lawn

Despite the beauty of such a lawn, it still has drawbacks. There are not many of them, but nonetheless. It will not be possible to actively spend time on such a lawn: the grasses will not withstand the regular "trampling". This is more a variant of a flower garden than a place to stay. Therefore, when organizing such a meadow, take this moment into account. If you choose the wrong mixture for the Mauritanian lawn (for example, annual flowers, or varieties not resistant to frost), then next year you will need to sow new mixtures.

And one more thing: weed control on such a lawn. Despite the fact that the Moorish lawn is classified as lazy, nevertheless, the appearance of weeds on it has not been canceled. Here is the regular fight with them and there is another disadvantage.
