In modern summer cottages and household plots, you can increasingly find green manicured lawns instead of the usual beds. They not only give a beautiful appearance, but are also decorative elements of the landscape. To grow a beautiful lawn, simply sowing grass is not enough. In this case, you risk getting something completely different from what you expect. It is advisable to study useful information on its design and maintenance before planting a lawn, as well as learn to understand the types of lawn grasses
Previously, it was possible to admire lawns only in parks and squares. Now they have become very common in the areas. Such green islands, harmoniously combined with flower gardens, rock gardens or other plant compositions, give the site a unique beauty and well-groomed appearance. The green color of the lawn has a calming effect and helps to relieve fatigue after a hard day. An equally important property of the lawn is its environmental friendliness. It perfectly cleans the air from dust, promotes its ionization and creates a kind of microclimate.
Plus, green lawns are a great escape from noise. Their surface acts as a single sound-absorbing element. Therefore, it is not only easier to breathe near lawns, here you can also take a break from the usual city noise. The lawn strengthens the soil. It protects it from drying out and overheating, and also promotes its mineralization.
These small green islands are endowed with such wonderful properties. However, before planting a lawn, you need to figure out what purpose it will serve? Depending on this, there are several varieties of them.
Types of lawns
Most often, you can find a decorative lawn. To create it, special grass mixtures are used, which give a rich, bright, green carpet. In such mixtures, you can find meadow fescue, ryegrass, field grass, bluegrass, and also clover. The decorative lawn is distinguished by its unpretentiousness and does not require special care. You can walk on it, do household chores and even have picnics. Nothing will happen to the lawn if left unattended for a while. It is advisable to mow such a lawn once a week, then its grass will be especially soft and silky. Seeds of a decorative lawn are relatively inexpensive, but they have a fairly good germination capacity.
A more elite version of the lawn is the parterre. It resembles a flat, green rug and most often acts as a decorative decoration of the site. It is impossible to walk on such a lawn, as this leaves dents on the grass, which worsen its appearance. In addition, it takes a lot of effort and patience to create such a lawn. The soil for planting seeds of such a lawn requires special preparation, since any surface defects will subsequently be very noticeable. Grass mixtures for parterre lawns most often contain seeds of narrow-leaved cereals. Higher requirements are imposed on the quality of such mixtures, since there should be no weeds on the parterre lawn. It is better to place the parterre lawn in an open sunny area.
Another type of lawn is Moorish. It looks like a green carpet of cereals with floral herbs. Here you can find various wildflowers: bells, cornflowers, forget-me-nots, poppies, chamomile and flax. Spring-flowering bulbs: crocuses and snowdrops give a special decoration to the parterre lawn. The Moorish lawn does not require mowing, and during some periods of flowering of certain grasses, mowing is completely prohibited. The main principle of such a lawn is the change of some colors to others, otherwise it loses its attractiveness.
If you correctly decide on the type of lawn and carry out all the necessary work for its improvement, you can get a wonderful green corner, which will be not only beautiful, but also very useful.
