Lawn mower repairs can hit your budget hard. Don't want to waste your money after every summer season? Follow 7 simple rules to help avoid equipment breakdowns

1. Leveling the soil surface

Ground irregularities are the insidious enemy of the lawn mower. The holes lurking in the grass cause the blades to dull quickly. Take care of the beauty of the lawn and the safety of the lawnmower - level the area 20-30 days before planting the seeds. To do this, you need to remove the sod, fill the pits with peat soil, level the soil with a rake and put the sod back.

2. Before mowing, we clean the lawn

Small debris can blunt the cutting part and damage the plastic body of the lawn mower, large debris can cause more serious damage to the equipment: it weakens the engine mount, deforms the drive shaft, and destroys the adapter. Before each mowing session, check the lawn for stones, sticks, bumps and other foreign objects.

3. We cut only dry lawn

Wet grass is not just contraindicated in an electric lawn mower. Wet plants stick to the cutting area and quickly clog the lawn mowing equipment. As a result, the engine is overloaded and depletes its resource faster. Mow your lawn during the day when the grass is free of dew and raindrops. The soil should be slightly damp, as plants can uproot from dry soil. Water the lawn a few hours before mowing to allow the grass to dry out.

4. Clean the mower after each mowing session

Shake out the grass immediately after cutting. Pay particular attention to the cutting blade, deck and ejection port. Clean all elements dry with a hard, long bristle brush. For convenience, the unit can be laid on its side. After cleaning the cutting area and ejection opening, place the mower on its wheels and wipe off any visible dirt with a cloth.

5. We cut the lawn correctly

Trim your lawn regularly. If the grass is over 10 cm, cut in layers. To avoid overloading the engine, remove no more than 3-5 cm at a time. Drive the mower slowly and only forward. Try not to come close to obstacles such as fences, curbs and trees. It is best to use a trimmer to trim the lawn near these objects.

6. Checking the mower before each start

Visually inspect fasteners, cables (electrical models) and guards. Inspect the case for cracks and dents. Check the oil level (for gasoline vehicles). After the summer season is over, take the mower to a professional workshop for service.

7. We store the lawn mower correctly

Prepare the mower for wintering. Thoroughly remove the grass and wipe all metal parts with a cloth soaked in oil. Lubricate the ejector cover parts - hinges and torsion springs with it. A special spray lubricant can be used to protect against corrosion. The equipment should be stored in a dry and clean room. Petrol lawn mowers should be kept strictly upright with an empty fuel tank.
