It's already getting pretty cold outside, nature is preparing for the cold. Are you ready for the winter? And the dacha? We will give some tips, and you urgently check whether you had time to do it or not
Tip # 1 - Inspect your irrigation system
In winter, your summer cottage can be destroyed by water. Therefore, be sure to check the water structures. Drain everything from various decorative fixtures (alpine slides, pools, fountains). This must be done, otherwise trouble may happen.
Tip # 2 - Inspect the heating system
Those who have a central sewerage system should not be particularly worried. But it is better to check individual septic tanks. They need to be cleaned. If in the summer you noticed that the water did not go out in certain places (for example, in the sink of the washbasin), or the septic tank was filling up quickly (not in the rainy season), then most likely the hose came off at the base of the drain pit.
To check for sure if this is so, there is no way other than to dig to the bottom of the septic tank. But we repeat, if in the summer you were tormented by the above problems, then you need to check. And it's better to check it now, before the ground is frozen. And to work with hoses (in case of breakdown, it is much easier in the fall, if not in time in the summer).
Tip # 3 - Inspect the electrical system
If you are not going to use the dacha in winter, then it is better to turn off the electricity. Everywhere. In the bathhouse, in the house, in sheds and various outbuildings. This will save your property from a possible short circuit and its consequences. But if you need light, then check the condition of the wiring. It should be great. Even small flaws or malfunctions can lead to big problems. In addition, pay attention to the work of electrical appliances and meters. Perhaps it is high time to replace them. Do it now.
Tip # 4 - close the summer ventilation
And not only her. We close everything through which the wind can get to your dacha: all stove plugs, a fireplace portal (you can cover it with a sheet of metal).
Council number 5 - we send garden tools for the winter
They need to be repaired, dried, if necessary, tinted and carefully hidden in a dry place. But tools need to be removed selectively. For example, a shovel, crowbar, and ax may come in handy in winter. After all, our cold weather is so unpredictable and it is not known how you will have to get to the dacha.
Tip # 6 - Finish All Repair Work
Why turn autumn worries into winter ones? We think so too, so end it now! Moreover, all small tails, after a season, will turn into a huge amount of work, and you will have enough worries anyway. And the work begun in warm weather will be difficult to complete in cold weather. After all, certain temperatures are needed for most repair work.
Tip # 7 - cut the grass
Moreover, this must be done so that it does not have time to grow back to frost. All this is done not for the sake of beauty, but in order to protect the site from possible natural fires. After all, spring is a fire hazardous season.
Tip # 8 - be wary of snow
A recommendation for those who have a greenhouse: check the reliability of the supporting structure. It may not withstand winter blows, and in the spring you will be left without a useful device in the country. Sliding gates should also be protected from snow. It is best to build a special canopy over them. Long, expensive, but once and for all.
Tip # 9 - general cleaning
If you do not want or do not see the point of washing everything inside, then no one will force you. But we strongly recommend washing the windows. Over the summer they got pretty dirty: dust, dirty rain, insects. It is much easier to get rid of all the "amenities" now.
Tip # 10 - Examine the house outside and inside
Roof, walls, floors, windows - all this requires a thorough inspection. Do it at last, it will not be superfluous.
