Viburnum is one of the most common medicinal plants used in folk medicine. Moreover, practically all parts of the plant are used for medicinal purposes: fruits, twigs, and bark of a bush. Colds, painful cramps, hypertension, neuroses, bleeding and many other ailments - in a long list of diseases in the treatment of which viburnum is very effective. In addition, it is an excellent general tonic. Therefore, if this natural healer is not yet in your garden, it is time to think about how to allocate a place for him

Viburnum propagation methods by seeds

Viburnum breeding can be started both in spring and autumn. In September, they collect seed from ripe fruits. The berries are freed from the brushes and squeezed out of the juice. The remaining pulp is rubbed through a sieve, separating the viburnum seeds from it. Immediately, without giving them time to dry out, the seeds are buried in ridges or laid for artificial stratification at home, if sowing is scheduled for spring.

Presowing preparation of the beds consists in the introduction of organic fertilizers. This will require about 30 kg of raw materials per 1 square meter. area. On the fertilized area, shallow grooves are formed, about 3 cm, into which the seeds are laid out at an interval of about 20 cm from each other. The soil above the seeds is compacted, and then additionally mulched with a layer of humus about 2 cm high. Such work in the fall will enable the seed to undergo natural stratification in natural conditions during the winter. After this hardening and treatment of the moisture accumulated in the soil, the seeds give strong healthy shoots next spring.

To carry out artificial stratification at home, the seeds are placed in a container with coarse river sand. The contents of the box are regularly moistened. After 2 months of keeping in room conditions, the container is placed in a refrigerator or outside - under a layer of snow. So it is stored until the arrival of spring. These seeds are planted to a depth of no more than 2 cm.

Seedling care includes loosening the soil, watering, weeding. When tender shoots form 2 true leaves, they dive at a farther distance from each other. The process of growing viburnum from seed is quite long. When the plants get stronger, it is recommended to move them to the nursery until they turn into a full-fledged seedling.

Planting viburnum seedlings to a permanent place

As well as propagation by seeds, it is also permissible to plant seedlings in the autumn and spring months. A planting hole is prepared with a depth of about 40 cm, with a diameter of about 50 cm. If you plan to plant several seedlings in a permanent place, then the holes are dug no closer than 1.5 m from each other. And when the area allows - then 2 m. The upper fertile soil layer is mixed with 3-4 buckets of organic fertilizer (rotted manure, matured compost) or peat.

Also, add to the nutrient substrate for one pit:

• 50 g of phosphorus;

• 25 g of potassium;

• 30 g of nitrogen.

Part of the resulting soil mixture is poured into the planting pit in a pyramid. The roots of the seedling are immersed in it and, holding it in an upright position, fill the hole with the remaining nutrient substrate. The seedling should be in the hole 3-5 cm deeper than before it grew in the nursery.

When the planting is complete, the ground around the seedling needs to be compacted so that there are no voids in the pit. Then carry out abundant watering of the freshly planted viburnum. To do this, you need to use at least 2 buckets of water per plant. The trunk circle must be mulched. A 10-centimeter layer of peat is arranged as mulch. Three years later, this fertilizer is shoveled and fresh peat is added.
