Ipomoea nil (lat. Ipomoea nil) - a representative of the Ipomoea clan. Belongs to the Bindweed family. In nature, the plant is found in China, China and Japan. A small number of the species under consideration can be captured in the Primorsky Territory.
Characteristics of culture
Morning glory nile is represented by perennial herbaceous vines, which are cultivated as annuals. They are characterized by strongly branched stems, which are crowned with opposite, oval or heart-shaped green foliage. The leaves are rather large, set on long petioles. The flowers are large, usually up to 10-12 cm in diameter, but there are varieties with giant flowers over 20 cm in diameter. The shade depends solely on the variety. Today cultivars have been obtained that form pink, purple, lavender, dark purple and blue flowers with a white center.
Like all other species of the genus, the flowers of morning glory are open only until the evening, after which they fold. Flowering under favorable climatic conditions and good care is long-lasting, usually occurs in the second decade of July and ends in September-October. In the southern regions, plants enter the flowering phase earlier, especially when grown by seedlings. It is also important to note that there are varieties with simple and double flowers, the latter are of particular interest among flower growers in all countries.
Ipomoea nile is actively used in breeding. Japanese breeders are especially keen on her. To date, more than two dozen varieties have been bred, which differ from each other in the diameter of the flowers, the shape of the corolla, the size, color and shape of the foliage. There are also varieties that are suitable for growing in pots. In Japan, for example, such varieties are used most often. In the process of growth, they are pinched, as a result of which lush bushes are formed. They are used to decorate balconies, porches, patios, terraces, gazebos.
Features of cultivation
Ipomoea nil, like all representatives of the genus, loves moderately moist, nutritious, loose, light soils. The presence of lime in its composition is not a problem. It is not recommended to plant plants in areas with strongly acidic, heavy, clayey and waterlogged soil. Also not suitable for the cultivation of lowland crops with stagnant cold air or accumulation of precipitation. Ipomoea nil is very sensitive to lighting. If other species get along well on a semi-shady area, then the species in question accepts only sunny places.
Another important feature of the plant is the excess of organic matter. It makes no sense to add organic matter to the soil if it is fertile enough. An excess of fertilizers will only lead to an acceleration of the growth of green mass, this will not affect the abundance of flowering. On the contrary, plants will be inferior to flowers. Therefore, it is enough to apply a complex of mineral fertilizers closer to the onset of flowering. At the same time, it is very important to limit the amount of nitrogen fertilizers.
Ipomoea nile can be propagated by seed. Sowing can be carried out directly into the ground. Growing through seedlings is possible. In this case, it is recommended to use peat pots. You need to sow 2-3 seeds in one pot. The same approach when sowing in open ground, that is, 2-3 seeds per hole. The seeds need preliminary preparation, due to which they hatch faster. Preparation consists in soaking for a day. As a rule, after sowing, seedlings appear on the 7th day, sometimes on the 10-14th day.
If Ipomoea nile is grown through seedlings, then in the absence of the possibility of planting (night frosts, unfavorable weather), you need to stick a support in the pots, otherwise the plant will begin to creep. It is important to establish good support in the place of planting the crop. Caring for the culture is very simple. It is enough to regularly water the plants, remove faded flowers, weed at a young age, thin out and pinch if necessary.

Morning Glory - Winding Bell
The gentle bells of Ipomoea so touched the soul of the classic of Japanese poetry of the 17th century that he devoted a touching "haiku" to the plant. The central place in the haiku is given by Ipomoea, who managed to wrap around the well bucket during the night. A man who wished to wash himself with water from a well in the morning regretted breaking the beauty of the plant and decided to go to the neighbors to wash his face with water from their well. Delightful attitude to nature
Start Your Morning With Breakfast
The summer resident woke up in the morning and first of all ran into the garden to see if the tender leaves of fresh seedlings planted the night before had been nailed by the night rain; whether there is an invasion of slugs on young cabbage; whether the leaves of the recently sown radish have appeared. Running between the beds, somewhere he loosened, somewhere he poured mulch, somewhere he put a peg under a bent bush. I returned to the house with a bunch of fresh dill for breakfast, and the clock is already lunch time
Morning Glory Red And Blue
Ipomea red-blue (lat.Ipomea rubro-caerulea) - a representative of the Ipomoea genus of the Bindweed family. South America is considered to be the homeland. The culture is actively cultivated by gardeners and flower growers in Russia, European countries and the United States in order to decorate personal backyards, as well as city parks and gardens.
