Deytsia Amur (lat.deutzia amurensis) - flowering ornamental shrub; species of the genus Deutzia family Hortensiae. Another name is Deutzia parviflora. Distributed mainly in the Far East, North Korea and China, it also grows there in natural conditions. Found in deciduous and mixed forests.
Characteristics of culture
Deytsia Amur is a deciduous shrub up to 2 m high with spreading branches covered with brown bark, which eventually acquires a grayish tint. Leaves are bright green, pubescent, opposite, elliptical, finely serrate along the edge, pointed at the top, wedge-shaped at the base, up to 7 cm long. In autumn, the foliage becomes brownish yellow and golden.
The flowers are medium-sized, white, odorless, collected in multiflorous corymbose inflorescences up to 8 cm long. Fruits are inconspicuous globular capsules of yellow-brown color, containing small seeds. The Amur deytsia blooms in May - June for 2-3 weeks, the flowering is annual and abundant (subject to growing conditions and proper care). The species under consideration is light and moisture-loving, resistant to gas pollution, dust and smoke, relatively winter-hardy.
Growing in the garden
Deytsia Amur is not very demanding on soil conditions, but it develops best on fertile, loose, fresh and moderately moist soils. Like other species of the genus, it does not tolerate waterlogged, swampy, heavy and clayey soils, as well as lowlands with stagnant cold air. On poor soils, planting is possible, but subject to the annual application of mineral and organic fertilizers. Acidity is not important, but strongly acidic soils should be excluded, planting in areas with such soil is permissible only with preliminary liming.
Negatively, the Amur Decian refers to squally winds. Plants should preferably be located on the southern or western gentle slopes. The close occurrence of groundwater can adversely affect development. When compiling a soil mixture for laying planting holes, sod soil, humus and coarse-grained washed sand are combined in a ratio of 2: 2: 1. The introduction of the mineral mixture and wood ash is encouraged. Especially important for the action of the Amurskaya is good drainage in the form of broken bricks or pebbles, the layer of which should be at least 10-15 cm.
The type of action under consideration is propagated by seeds, green and lignified cuttings, as well as by root shoots, with which no problems never arise, since it is formed in huge quantities. Gardeners most often propagate the culture by cuttings. For successful rooting, treatment of cuttings with growth stimulants is optional. As a rule, up to 100% of cuttings are rooted. Deits easily tolerate a transplant, this applies even to adult specimens.
Subtleties of care
As you know, the Amur action is drought-resistant, but abundant and lush flowering is possible only with regular watering, especially during a prolonged drought. A more thorough care of plants should be in the first half of summer, since it is at this moment that the action grows intensively. In the spring, humus and liquid mineral fertilizers are applied under the plants, the introduction of granular superphosphate and wood ash (about 200 g per 1 adult bush) is not prohibited. The amount of fertilizer applied depends solely on the fertility of the soil.
In the first half of summer, the soil in the near-trunk zone must be systematically loosened, removing the crust that has appeared. Weeds must be removed, this operation is recommended to be carried out manually, no chemicals should be used. Pruning is carried out immediately after flowering. Shoots older than 5 years are removed from plants, cut into a ring; young shoots are shortened, giving the shrubs a more compact appearance. Before pruning, you need to feed with a mullein (1 part mullein to 10 parts water).
In August, all care manipulations are stopped, watering is stopped, this is necessary for good maturation of the wood. If the weather is wet for a long time, the soil at the foot of the bushes is covered with waterproof materials. For the winter, the Amur action is covered, the shoots are bent to the soil surface and fixed with staples, then sprinkled with dry fallen leaves and covered with spruce branches. In winter, snow is thrown on the plants, it is also a good insulation. To prevent the action from straightening out, the shelter is removed in the spring, and the foliage used as a heater is embedded in the soil at the same time as loosening.
Application
Deytsiya Amur is ideal for single and group plantings, live non-burning razor. The plant looks great against the background of the lawn and in the background of mixborders. Deytsia Amur is combined both with ornamental shrubs and with perennial and annual flower crops, for example, with Gaillardia, Platycodon, Geleniums, chamomiles, etc. The species under consideration will harmoniously flow into automnalia.
