Deytsiya magnificent (lat.deutzia x magnifica) - flowering ornamental shrub; hybrid of Vilmorin action and rough action. It does not occur in natural conditions. Grown in European countries, as well as in the southern regions of Russia.
Characteristics of culture
The action is magnificent - a deciduous shrub up to 2.5 m high with a broadly spreading crown and erect brown shoots that take an arched shape under the weight of inflorescences. The root system is shallow, forms abundant root shoots. Leaves are green, oblong-ovate or oblong-lanceolate, opposite, with finely toothed edges, rough to the touch, up to 5 cm long. With the onset of autumn, the foliage becomes yellow-brown.
The flowers are snow-white, double, sometimes have a pinkish tint, up to 3 cm in diameter, collected in large umbellate panicles up to 10 cm long. Flowering is abundant and long - up to 14-20 days, takes place at the beginning of summer. The action is magnificent in decorativeness and can easily compete with other representatives of the genus. It is smoke and gas resistant and can be used for landscaping large parks and gardens. The only drawback is low winter hardiness.
Garden forms
The magnificent action has several forms, which are also actively used in gardening. These include:
* f. erecta - the form is represented by shrubs with dense umbellate inflorescences;
* f. superba - a distinctive feature is the snow-white bell-shaped flowers;
* f. formosa - one of the most unusual forms, boasts large double flowers;
* f. eburnea - represented by shrubs with bell-shaped flowers, collected in drooping paniculate inflorescences;
* f. latifolia - the decorativeness of this form lies not only in the inflorescences, but also in the foliage, which has a wide ovate shape.
Cultivation, reproduction and planting subtleties
The action is magnificent, unlike other representatives of the genus, it prefers areas with diffused light, for example, under the openwork crowns of large trees. For active development and abundant flowering, plants require good drainage and a sufficient level of moisture. Optimal for the action of excellent loose, water and air permeable, slightly acidic and light soils. Does not tolerate the type of excessive salinity in question. Also, strongly acidic, heavy and clayey soils are not suitable for plants.
The excellent action is propagated only vegetatively. As you know, the seed method is not acceptable for hybrids. The most effective way is cuttings, however, the rooting rate of cuttings is low. Without treatment of cuttings with growth stimulants, rooting does not exceed 20%. Also, the hybrid successfully reproduces by dividing the bush and root shoots. Cuttings are cut in May or July after flowering. For rooting, cuttings are planted in a greenhouse or under a film in a wet mixture composed of sandy peat and sand. The cuttings are systematically ventilated and provided with moderate watering; in no case should the substrate be allowed to dry out.
Plants grown from cuttings are planted in a permanent place no earlier than two years later. The planting hole is prepared in 2-3 weeks, the soil for embedding is mixed with humus or rotted manure and sand, and fertilized with mineral fertilizers. Drainage is laid at the bottom of the pit with a layer of 10-15 cm. When planting, the root collar of the bush is not buried. The optimal distance between shrubs is 2.5 cm. Further, it is important to provide thorough care: watering, loosening and weeding. It is advisable to mulch the near-trunk zone, such a procedure will prevent the appearance of weeds and retain moisture received from the outside for a longer period, which is very important for young plants.
The following spring, slaked lime (about 300 g per 1 sq. M), potassium salt (15-20 g) and rotted manure or compost (3 kg) are added under the plants. Immediately after pruning, which is carried out in July, young actions are fed with Kemira-wagon (at the rate of 100 g per 1 sq. M). In the second half of summer, all activities for caring for shrubs are stopped, this approach will allow the plants to prepare for winter. The action is excellent in winter hardiness, and for the winter it needs a good shelter, and not only the root system, but also the shoots are insulated.
Crop maintenance involves pruning and is very important for its growth. Pruning is carried out in early spring, removing dry and frozen shoots, and then immediately after flowering - all shoots are shortened by a third. Having been late with pruning at least a couple of weeks, the shrubs will not have time to reproduce new flowering shoots. Winter pruning is also prohibited, otherwise the plants will not bloom in summer. The excellent action does not need prophylactic treatments against diseases and pests. Occasionally it is affected by the bumblebee proboscis, which heavily eats the foliage. When pests are found, the shrubs are treated with a 0.15% phthalophos solution.
