Garden carnation most often acts as perennial plants, but annual varieties can also be found.
The height of a garden carnation, depending on the species, can even reach eighty centimeters. Garden carnation flowers can be either single or collected in inflorescences. Actually, the diameter of the flowers itself is also directly dependent on the species, in some cases the diameter can reach eight centimeters. Certain types of garden carnations look great in bouquets.
The most popular types of garden carnations include the Chinese carnation. This flower is an annual or biennial plant, and its height fluctuates between fifteen and fifty centimeters. The flowers of such a garden carnation can be either simple or double, and their color will be completely different. The Turkish garden carnation is a two-year-old plant, and its height can reach twenty to thirty-five centimeters, while the flowers gather in inflorescences and exude a wonderful aroma. The Dutch garden carnation is a perennial, this plant has large flowers, painted in different tones. The plumose carnation is also a perennial plant, the height of which will be twenty-five to thirty centimeters. The flowers of such a carnation can also be either simple or double. As for the sand carnation, the height of this perennial plant reaches thirty centimeters. This plant has white flowers that have a surprisingly delicate aroma.
Care and cultivation of garden carnations
For planting garden carnations, you should prepare a place in advance. In the autumn period of time, you should carefully dig up the soil, where mineral and organic fertilizers are applied, which should be in the form of humus. For the normal development of this flower, sunny areas are necessary, but areas where there are slight darkening are also suitable. Garden carnation prefers fertile soils, which will be very well-drained and moderately moist. Watering the garden carnation regularly is recommended, but it should be moderate. However, excess moisture should be avoided. Watering is necessary at the root, however, moisture should not get on the flowers in any case. Garden carnation is great for feeding, but fresh manure is not recommended for this flower. Mineral fertilizers should be applied after a week, after the seedlings have been planted. Fertilizers are also needed at the moment when buds are formed. At the same time, a larger number of dressings for a garden carnation will not be required.
It is also important to remember that some tall varieties of garden carnations do not need a garter, because from strong winds or constant rains, the stems of such plants can sink to the ground. For those flowers that begin their flowering again, the wilted flowers should be removed. For the winter period, planting should be mulched with peat, humus or any other organic material.
Reproduction of garden carnation
Garden carnations should be propagated using cuttings, seeds and dividing the bush. It is important to remember that annual plants must be propagated exclusively with the help of seeds.
In the autumn period of time, it is necessary to take cuttings on which there are two or three nodes. The cutting should be rooted in water or in wet sand. After rooting occurs, the cuttings must be transplanted into pots, which will contain fertile land, where the plants will be kept throughout the winter. Already at the end of May, garden carnations should be planted in open ground.
