Anthurium andraeanum - a flowering exotic plant; a representative of the Anthurium genus of the Aroid family. Is a native of warm countries. It occurs naturally in Colombia and northwestern Ecuador. Typical habitats are mountain slopes, mountain forests. The species is widespread in Europe and Russia. It is actively used in breeding work.

Characteristics of culture

Anthurium Andre is represented by perennial herbaceous plants, which are endowed with a shortened stem, crowned with large, rich green, shiny, oblong, petiolate, heart-shaped foliage. As a rule, foliage reaches 10-20 cm in width, over 30 cm in length. The flowers are extraordinary, cylindrical cobs, can have white, yellowish and cream color. The length of the cob does not exceed 15 cm.

The coverlet of the flowers is attractive, bright, shiny, usually red and coral. Also on sale are varieties with bedspreads of pink, raspberry and salmon colors. The bloom of Andre anthurium is long, with good care and favorable climatic conditions, it lasts up to a month, sometimes a week longer. Subsequently, the coverlet does not dry out and does not wither, it changes its bright color to a nondescript green, coarsens a lot.

Growing conditions

Anthurium Andre is a rather picky plant. It can be grown in greenhouses and apartment conditions. In the summer, the plant can be taken out to the open balcony and garden. The representative of the genus is extremely picky about lighting. He prefers well-lit places, but the light, in turn, should be diffused. Anthurium Andre will not tolerate heavily shaded places.

Temperature is important. It is optimal to keep the plant in a room with a temperature of at least 18C, but it is better for a representative of the flora to grow at a temperature of 25C. But in late autumn and winter, plants should be kept at a temperature of 16C. Closer to spring, the room temperature gradually increases.

Those who plan to grow Andre anthurium at home should take care of the air humidity. Optimal - 85%, better than 90%. For the winter, you will definitely have to purchase a humidifier, because heating devices dry the air a lot. To protect the stems of the plant from drying out, it is recommended to cover them with moss, which is extremely important to spray systematically.

Care features

Anthurium Andre is very picky about watering. It is recommended to carry out the manipulation regularly, avoiding the drying out of the earthy coma. Watering should be abundant, warm, settled water. In autumn and winter, the amount of watering is reduced. It is important to remember that anthuriums do not like waterlogging. If the problem is allowed, the root system of an exotic plant will start to rot and then the plant will die. Therefore, it is best to lay good drainage on the bottom of the pot and drill holes in the bottom to eliminate excess liquid.

Also, Andre anthurium is picky about feeding. In spring and summer, plants must be fed with complex mineral fertilizers once every 14 days. Fertilizers are important to dilute first. Organics are also welcome, especially rotted foliage and manure. It is enough to add it once - in early spring.

Subtleties of transplant

As it grows, the plant needs to be transplanted into a larger container / pot. It is best to carry out this procedure in January-February. The pot is filled with a loose, nutritious, slightly acidic, air and moisture permeable substrate consisting of moss, peat and sod (or deciduous) soil in a ratio (2: 2: 1). At the bottom, in turn, a drainage layer is laid. It is not forbidden to use coarse-grained river sand, pebbles as drainage.
