Most moms of young children are looking forward to summer. Indeed, with warming, the frequency of acute respiratory diseases and active manifestations of chronic bronchopulmonary diseases that afflict babies in the cold season decreases markedly. Thus, the parents calm down, terrified of the next fall and the new winter. However, energy should be spent not on mental anguish and fears, but on strengthening the body of your crumbs, making it more resistant to the attacks of hordes of bacteria, infections and viruses. The best preventive measure in this case will be hardening, the most favorable time for which is the coming summer, and the place is a country cottage
The constituent elements of hardening are well known to us from childhood. Remember the saying "The sun, air and water are our best friends"? Interaction with these three elements is the main measures for hardening a child and any adult. However, the degree of this interaction will not be the same for everyone, depending on the age and individual characteristics of the organism.
Therefore, before proceeding with the hardening procedures, you should familiarize yourself with the basic rules for their implementation.
Firstly, tempering measures are recommended only during the period of remission, that is, when your child is not sick with anything.
Secondly, hardening only makes sense if you intend to do it regularly (read: daily). Convalescent procedures in a "case-by-case" format will not give any noticeable effect.
Thirdly, so that hardening does not harm, the dosage of the selected procedure should be gradually increased. This means that a child who has barely recovered from winter sores should not be immersed in a slightly heated open reservoir.
Fourth, after a forced break in hardening (for example, due to another illness), you should again return to more gentle dosages of healing procedures.
Fifth, notice the changes in your child's condition after hardening activities. If he has become lethargic, irritable, losing weight, sleeping worse, then the planned recovery plan should be abandoned for 2 weeks. Obviously something is going wrong. Return to hardening later.
So, you are armed with the knowledge of how to temper a child correctly, and you can start acting.
SUN
Direct sunlight is a rich source of vitamin D. Do not deprive your child of the opportunity to replenish his reserves in the summer. From 2 years old, put your baby on a sunbed with your feet facing the sun so that the tan is evenly distributed over the body. Don't forget to wear a hat or just keep your baby's head in the shade of a tree or parasol. It is safer to sunbathe on a lounger with legs on a small hill from the ground. This will ensure proper air circulation around the baby and prevent overheating. Sunbathing on a litter that is laid out directly on the ground, beach or lawn will prevent the child from additional air circulation. If you have a little fidget growing up, and it is difficult for him to lie down on a lounger, let him run around in the sun naked or in some panties. This will not detract from the benefits of sunbathing. However, this contact should occur in the morning or afternoon, when the activity of the sun decreases. Recommended air temperature + 22-24, 5 ° С.
Start sunbathing time with 2-3 minutes and gradually increase to half an hour.
AIR
It is possible to take the child out into the air from 2-3 days after discharge from the maternity hospital. Air hardening is the most accessible general strengthening procedure. Its mechanism is based on the difference in air temperature and the surface of the child's body. In summer, in good weather, in places protected from wind and direct sunlight, it is useful for a child to be outdoors all day. It is worth exposing the baby gradually: first the arms and legs, then the belly and, last of all, the chest. Air baths will be even more beneficial if combined with the participation of a child in outdoor games or cycling, roller skating, etc.
WATER
The simplest water procedure is rubdown. They are recommended for children from 2-3 months of age. In this case, the initial water temperature should be + 35-34 ° С, then it is gradually reduced to + 25-20 ° С. You need to start rubbing with your hands (from hand to shoulder). Then they wipe the chest, back and finally the legs (from the foot to the thigh).
The next level of water hardening is dousing. You can pour water over babies from the first weeks of life. For this, 2-3 liters of water with a temperature of 1-2 ° C lower than in the main bath, taken by him before the hardening procedure, is enough. Pouring, as an independent hardening procedure, can be used for children aged 1 year and older. In summer, in the country, dousing can be used in the fresh air, pouring about 2 liters of water onto the child from a watering can or a jug. First, pour it on the baby's shoulders, then on the chest, back and, finally, on the head. From 2 years old, you can pour water on children from the shower. At the same time, the positive mechanical effect of the jet on the baby's body is added to the temperature factor of the water.
Separately, it is worth mentioning doused feet. This method has proven itself as a hardening procedure for children who often suffer from acute respiratory infections, being an excellent prevention of a runny nose, cough and sore throat.
From 3 years old, crumbs can already swim in open reservoirs at a water temperature of + 22-23 ° C. And this is the most active way of hardening with water. The recommended residence time in water is initially 2-3 minutes, followed by an increase to 10 minutes. The breaks between bathing should be at least 30 minutes. An alternative to swimming in the open water can be swimming in the children's pool.
Do not be lazy to organize your child hardening procedures in the country, and the coming winter will not be scary for you.
