Did you know that the white acacia, which is quite widespread in many places, which exudes a bright pleasant aroma during flowering in spring, is not actually an acacia at all. This is a robinia pseudoacacia. This tree is very fond of bees during its flowering, and acacia honey is considered one of the most delicious. But not everyone knows that the bark of young shoots, flowers and leaves are wonderful medicines
A little about acacia
General information: robinia pseudoacacia (white acacia) is widespread in Russia almost everywhere in warm regions and in the middle zone, in the northern part of the country this thermophilic tree practically does not grow. The height of the acacia is relatively small and is usually up to 20 meters, with a maximum of 25 meters. In the plant guides there is information that its trunk can be up to 1 meter thick! I have not met such specimens live, although we have a lot of robinia, almost all forest belts consist of it. The height of the false acacia growing in the south of Russia rarely reaches a height of more than 10 meters. The inflorescences are white, very large and fragrant, and consist of moth-shaped flowers. The leaves are from silvery green to dark green, each leaf consists of separate oval leaves, collected on one branch of 11-15 pieces.
Medical properties and application in pharmacology
The spectrum of the therapeutic action of Robinia is quite wide. It is considered the first enemy of cough, because medicines based on it are wonderful expectorants. And also, the funds made from false acacia have such effects as antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory, antipyretic. In addition, phytotherapists highly value the therapeutic effect in the fight against diseases of the joints, as well as in the treatment of diseases of the musculoskeletal system, including multiple sclerosis. Robinia's help in case of gynecological diseases, as well as various diseases of the gastrointestinal tract, is invaluable.
We prepare white acacia
For the preparation of medicines, we need the bark of young shoots, flowers and leaves. Flowers are harvested not fully blossomed, then dried in a well-ventilated hot room, it is possible in an oven with a slightly open door, the drying temperature is no more than 50 degrees Celsius.
Leaves and bark can be harvested all the warm time, from the moment the buds open and until the fall leaves. They can also be dried, or they can be put into action right away.
Preparing medicines from robinia
Decoctions and tinctures are prepared from robinia as medicines. There is nothing complicated about it.
Broths:
-from flowers. For 1 liter of boiling water, we need 2 tablespoons of flowers, it doesn't matter whether they are dry or fresh. Their number does not change from the state of the colors. Pour them into a saucepan, pour a liter of boiling water, cook for about 3 minutes, then let cool. We filter. If the result is less than a liter, then add the required amount of cold boiled water. Take the broth 25-30 minutes before meals at least three times throughout the day;
-from the bark. It will take a little less raw materials, but more time. Only one tablespoon of raw material is needed per liter of water! Fill it with a liter of boiling water and cook over low heat for 15-18 minutes. Let it cool naturally, filter it, add water to a liter. This broth will last for 2-4 days, depending on how intensively you take it.
Tinctures:
- for external use, flowers are made with alcohol, strength 70%. In this case, we take raw materials in a ratio to liquid (that is, alcohol) one to two;
-for ingestion, we do this: pour a tablespoon of flowers into a container, fill it with a glass of boiling water, let it stand for half an hour - and you can be treated;
- for the leaves and bark, ordinary vodka is enough, for 10 parts of which you need to take 1 part of the medicinal raw material. Insist for two to two and a half weeks, shaking occasionally.
Attention, contraindications
Despite all the benefits that Robinia treatment brings, you need to be extremely careful with this plant, since it contains extremely dangerous toxic substances and if improperly made, you can get poisoning instead of help. Therefore, be extremely careful with the dosage during treatment. In addition, robinia flowers should not be used by pregnant and lactating women, as well as people with individual intolerance (allergy to acacia). Another serious contraindication for the use of these drugs is the low acidity of the stomach.
