Clivia cinnabar (Clivia miniata) - don't be surprised if you know this beauty by a different name. Sometimes some readers start to fight over the specified "wrong" name. I hasten to reassure everyone. One and the same plant has many names at the same time, which are assigned to it when the plant begins to travel the world. So Russians call Cinnabar Klivia "dull red", "orange", "red lead", "red lead", "Kaffir (or Cape)", and in some other country you can hear a couple of other names. But I digress a little from the topic.
Clivia matte red appeared in Europe not so long ago, at the beginning of the 19th century. And it is firmly entrenched in European gardens, greenhouses and indoor window sills. Its glossy ribbon-like leaves are born in the summer, 5-6 pieces per year, replacing old leaves dying off in autumn and winter. Each spring marks the emergence of a strong erect peduncle half a meter high. Bright orange funnel-shaped flowers, collected in an umbrella-shaped inflorescence, crown a strong peduncle. For especially caring housewives, Clivia orange manages to bloom twice a year. Tireless breeders have bred varieties with flowers of different colors.

Clivia noble (Clivia nobilis) - Its drooping orange-red flowers appear in May. The height of Clivia noble is 30-40 centimeters. The tips of the flower petals are green.

Clivia citantiflora (Clivia x cyrtanthiflora) - is a hybrid of two clivias - cinnabar and noble. A plant with a height of 30-50 centimeters pleases with light fiery red flowers in April.
Growing
Growing Clivia matte red has several interesting points:
• As a rule, the plant is grown in a pot, taken out into the open space in the spring and summer, with a return to its usual place at the end of September. If you live in an area where the temperature does not drop below plus 10 degrees all year round, then Clivia may well live outside the home. You just need to protect it from the cold wind. It is equally good for a plant in a lit place and in partial shade.
• During the active growing season, the plant must be provided with heat. The optimum temperature for it will be from 14 to 24 degrees.
• Clivia needs a period of relative rest in a cool place with very little watering. The duration of such a period does not exceed one and a half months. In the future, such a rest will allow the plant to bloom much more efficiently.
• During the budding period, the clivia is kept in a "dungeon" (in complete darkness) for 10 days, and then the pot is brought back to light.
• The peduncle is cut when the flowers begin to turn into seeds, preventing their formation. Otherwise, the plant will not have the strength to bloom next year.
• Periodically, the plant needs to be fed by adding a complex liquid fertilizer to the water for irrigation. Watering in the summer is moderate, and from autumn to spring it is rare, when the earthy clod dries up. Spraying the leaves with water is helpful. It is better to put the pot on a pallet with damp expanded clay or pebbles.
Reproduction and care
You can propagate by seeds, dividing rhizomes with new shoots, dividing old bushes.
Young plants are transplanted in early spring. Adult plants are transplanted in a larger container every 3-4 years. The best time to buy a plant is from January to March, before flowering.
To maintain the appearance, remove dry leaves and wilted flowers. The leaves are wiped with a damp cloth.
Clivia is content with disease and pest resistance.
