Traditional varieties of raspberries, unlike remontant ones, begin to prepare for the new season immediately after picking berries: July-August. Let's talk about the rules for removing branches, feeding, watering, processing

Differences between summer and remontant raspberries

Caring for raspberries after harvest depends on the type of bushes. The remontant and summer varieties are pruned differently, as they differ in development and growth cycles. They prepare for the new season at different times.

Novice gardeners often find it difficult to determine the type of raspberry planted. The indicator for checking is the time of fruiting. If the berries ripen in July - you grow a summer variety, if in August - a remontant one.

Summer raspberries after fruiting

As soon as the berry picking is over, work begins on preparing the plants for the next season. The sooner all the necessary actions / activities are carried out, the more time the bushes will have to recover and grow.

The raspberry uses the second half of summer to build up young shoots, lay fruitful buds and accumulate strength for wintering. Do not delay processing the bushes, as you have several important activities to do.

Raspberry pruning

The "operation" to remove from fruiting shoots is carried out immediately after harvest (late July - early August). First, a woody shoot is cut off, on which there were berries. Then work is done with the shoots.

Small, weak, damaged, deformed shoots are removed. Large, well-developed shoots with a thick stem are left. As a result, instead of the last year's branch, 5-8 young ones remain. At the same time it is necessary to weed the "plantation".

You need to cut the raspberries correctly - as low as possible, practically without leaving hemp. The leaves and ends of branches of young growth, without signs of disease, can be used to create a warm bed. Everything else is burned or removed from the site.

Feeding raspberries

After fruiting, the raspberry must be fertilized immediately after pruning or no later than the beginning of September. Correct feeding consists in the annual alternation of mineral mixtures and organics.

1. The first year is organic. Compost or rotten manure (4-5 kg / sq. M.) + Ash (1 glass per trunk circle) is introduced.

2. Second year - mineral water. Potassium sulfate (40 g) + double superphosphate (50 g) is used for 1 bush. The introduced mixture is embedded in the ground by 10-15 cm.

Watering

The superficial root system of raspberries suffers from a lack of moisture. In the absence of rain, dry soil deprives the plant of vitality. Watering the raspberry tree must be carried out not only before fruiting, but also in the second half of summer, when the prerequisites for the future harvest are laid.

Regular moistening is not carried out only in rainy weather and before the onset of frost. According to the rules, watering takes place every 3-4 times a month, as a result, the soil should be moistened to a depth of 20-40 cm, within a radius of 30-40 cm around the bush, that is, 3-4 buckets of water per running meter of the ridge.

Treatment against pests and diseases

After pruning and weeding, the raspberry tree is sprayed with Bordeaux liquid (1% solution) or Tsikhom, Azophos, Colloidal Sulfur. For the complete destruction of fungi and bacteria, the event is carried out 2 times with an interval of 2 weeks. After leaf fall, in order to avoid the development of infections and the progression of pests, the dead leaves are removed from under the bushes.

The top layer of the earth is treated with any pest control agent (Aktellik, Fufanon, Kemifos, Inta-Vir, Alatar, Novaktion). Mulching is carried out with straw (sawdust, mown grass, peat) to a layer height of 10-15 cm. Around the stem, the soil remains open within a radius of 10-15 cm.

Raspberries will bear fruit well if you follow the rules of care: pruning, watering, feeding, treatment from infections and pests.
