The plant called hyacinth is a very beautiful and spectacular flower, which can be grown not only in the garden or on the site, but also at home
The beautiful flowers of this plant are vaguely similar to bells, but here they are located not separately, but in large bunches. However, not only the appearance of the plant deserves sharp attention. The scent he exudes is also beautiful and delicate. Outdoor hyacinths begin to bloom in the spring season, but trickery can be tricked into blooming at home in winter.
Of course, for this, it is initially worthwhile to correctly preserve the plant bulbs, and then begin to regularly and appropriately care for the flower. Then, in the end, it will be possible to enjoy the beauty of the plant at home during the period from December to April, moreover, you will not need to put special efforts into this. Of course, many questions immediately arise here in the form of such as how to store hyacinths at home, how they are planted, how to properly provide care and what to do with the hyacinth when the flowering period passes.
Storing hyacinth bulbs at home
Hyacinth bulbs at home must be stored under certain conditions. This must necessarily be a place where coolness and moisture are constantly provided. After the hostess has purchased the hyacinth bulbs, you can store them for eight to ten weeks in containers with soil on the balcony or in the lower area of the refrigerator, after placing them in paper bags. It is strictly forbidden to use polyethylene. In any case, care must be taken to ensure that the bag is not near vegetables and fruits, since the ethylene released by them can harm the fragile hyacinth bulbs. Sometimes it is necessary to check the bulbs to ensure they do not dry out.
It is worth remembering that hyacinth bulbs are dangerous and poisonous. Therefore, you need to store them out of the reach of children. The oxalic acid in the bulbs can cause skin irritation and other conditions. For this reason, the bulbs should be moistened before planting, as this will help reduce the effects of oxalic acid. In addition, planting hyacinths is required with gloves to protect your hands.
How to plant hyacinth at home?
There are several ways to plant hyacinths, but the most popular among them are two: their development in special glass vases with water and the traditional method of growing flowers in a pot with soil.
Growing hyacinth in water
Here, first you need to pick up special containers that have a lower narrow and upper wide area. This will help ensure that the bulbs are placed above the water, and only the roots of the future plant are in contact with its surface. An onion is placed in a wide area of a vase or pot. Warm water is poured into the bottom here. It is necessary to replace the old water with new one approximately twice every seven days.
The hyacinth bulbs placed in the water should be placed in a cool place where there is a minimum of sunlight. The air temperature should be between four and ten degrees, but not more. Such conditions must be observed until the roots of the plant begin to grow and the first leaves begin to form. Basements or garages will be a great place to grow flowers for this period. In this case, such flowers will grow from three to four weeks, but if they are planted in a standard way, then this period will be up to four months.
Hyacinth loves sunlight, so further care is a minimum of rules. For example, a container with a flower should be placed in a sunny place - preferably on a windowsill. You also need to change the water regularly.
Standard hyacinth cultivation
For the usual method of planting hyacinth, it is necessary to select pots with a diameter of about twenty centimeters. Also, the containers must have drainage holes. The soil for growing hyacinths should consist of equal shares of leaf and sod land, sand and peat, and compost. But it must be remembered that no fertilizers in the soil are appropriate here. Three or four hyacinth bulbs can be placed in one pot, but the top should be slightly visible from under the soil. For the first ten weeks, the pots should be in a cool place, and only then you can bring them into the house and enjoy the flowering of this beautiful plant.
