It so happens that you harvest early potatoes by July and a free piece of land appears. You can, of course, sow it with green manure, or you can collect an additional crop. What to sow in July?
Potato
In order to prepare dishes from young potatoes again in September-October, plant sprouted old potatoes. This year's potatoes should not be planted, they will not sprout. So if there is a little old potato left, which is a pity to throw away and do not want to use for food, then plant it. Since the weather is hot now, the furrows and holes should be well shed, the usual humus or fertilizers, onion husks and eggshells from the wireworm and May beetle larvae should be sprinkled. Water constantly until germination, the soil, especially sandy or sandy loam, dries out very quickly. Sprinkle seedlings and mulch, spray from the Colorado potato beetle, which is still abundant in the summer. At the end of summer, be sure to treat potatoes with copper-containing preparations to prevent the appearance of late blight, which is activated at the end of August-September.
Tomato
In late June or early July, plant early-maturing tomato varieties in the greenhouse. They will bear fruit until the end of September, and before the very cold weather, you will still have time to remove the green fruits and leave them to ripen at home. Be sure to treat bushes with phytophthora remedies. If you do not have your own seedlings, you will surely find one in farmers' markets.
Cucumbers
Be sure to plant cucumbers in the middle of summer. When the early plantings finish bearing fruit, your July bushes will delight you with a good harvest. It is better to make the beds without trellises, but it is good to mulch the earth so that the stalks do not burn the hot earth. When the nights get colder in August, the cucumbers will take heat from the ground, and the tied bushes will ache.
Cabbage
Kohlrabi, Peking, Pak-choi will have time to grow from ordinary sowing with seeds. If you want to harvest cauliflower, white cabbage and broccoli in October, then plant it in seedlings in the garden.
Greens
Greens can be sown every 2 weeks throughout the season. The growth record holder is arugula, it manages to ripen 2 weeks after sowing. Basil, dill, parsley, spinach, lettuce, marjoram, oregano, cilantro, and onions are the best sources of calcium. So that the seedlings are friendly, water the plantings abundantly, and after watering, mulch the soil so that it does not dry out and does not form a crust that is dangerous for delicate sprouts.
Peas
Peas love a lot of water, if you cannot provide it with constant moisture, then you should not try to plant it. If there are no problems with watering, feel free to plant and you will have sweet pods in August-September.
Corn
Plant corn, there is never a lot of it, no matter how much you plant. Sugar sweet varieties are especially good. They grow quite short and don't spend a lot of time growing. In September, you will delight your loved ones with sweet cobs like in July.
Carrots and beets
It is even advisable to sow these root crops not earlier than the end of May. By this time, the first years of the carrot fly ends, the first abundant wave of weeds after the spring-summer rains passes. Vegetables gain weight well in September when it rains and the heat subsides. Smooth juicy roots will go for storage.
What not to plant in the middle of summer
All pumpkin and melons will not have time to ripen. Also, do not plant pepper, at the first cold snap, it stops growing and drops color. Even the transshipment of bushes into pots does not bring results - the plant is under stress, which means that you do not expect fruits.
In general, late plantings are a kind of lottery, sometimes there will be a long warm autumn in one year, and sometimes autumn will show its bad character already in mid-August. But in any case, you should not leave bare patches of land - throw weed-out weeds on them or sow siderates. Let the work of earthworms to improve the soil do not stop here. Indeed, under the hot sun, the earth dries up and loses its qualities, but we, summer residents, do not need this at all.
