Why is carbonated water harmful?

Almost all children love soda. It is very sweet with a wide range of shades and flavors. And the bubbles from this water burst so interestingly in the mouth! But, unfortunately, such drinks harm both children and adults. Why is that?

Children's doctors against

Pediatricians do not recommend parents to introduce carbonated drinks to children under the age of five. The fact is that in the composition of such "sweet colored waters", which are sold in abundance in stores, there are no minerals and vitamins necessary for a growing body. Unlike, for example, some types of mineral waters with vitamins and microelements. This should be evidenced by a special sticker and markings on the bottle.

In ordinary soda, as a rule, there are a lot of various preservatives, flavors, dyes (most often of synthetic origin). Such elements are harmful and even dangerous for children's health. The thing is that in children, the pancreas does not work at full strength, and there is little secretion of it, therefore, the protective functions of the gastric mucosa are not yet fully formed.

If a child (as, indeed, an adult) regularly drinks carbonated drinks, then this will lead to disruption of the work of his stomach and intestines, which will contribute to increased flatulence, and in the future can cause gastritis - a fertile ground for a dangerous gastric ulcer.

There are as many as 8 teaspoons in 200 grams of sweet soda sugar! Such a concentration of sugar is very bad for the condition of teeth and bones - they quickly become thinner and break easily. Even if you regularly brush your teeth and rinse your mouth after drinking soda often, this is unlikely to save your teeth from the onset of caries. The fact is that such drinks contain chemicals that can flush calcium from the human body and impair its absorption.

There are manufacturers who honestly write on the label that sweeteners were used in the production of the drinking product. But even such a drink is still not worth giving to a child until a certain age. Substitutes are an unnatural product, and the nature of their effect on the human body is still not fully understood.

How to replace soda?

There is, of course, an alternative to such drinks. Doctors advise drinking natural fruit drinks, juices, compotes, tea (green, black), since such drinks are safer and healthier. By the way, natural teas prevent cancer. Instead of purchased lemonade, it is much better to make homemade, of which there are many recipes. The easiest way is to add a little lemon or orange juice with a little sugar to your drinking water. This water quenches thirst well and is liked by many children.

But industrial-produced sweet soda cannot quench your thirst. If a child consumes it in the heat, he will quickly want to drink again. This is due to the fact that the sweet elements of soda remain on the taste buds for a long time, and simply because soda is saturated with sugar, which provokes thirst. Regular consumption of these drinks quickly leads to obesity.

Are there any contraindications?

In addition to the fact that soda is not very useful anyway, it also has obvious contraindications. For example, it is undesirable to use it for those who have problems with the liver, gastrointestinal tract. Such drinks are banned for those who are obese and diabetic. All doctors and scientific centers unanimously say that excessive consumption of sweet soda will sooner or later lead to the formation of kidney stones, since such a liquid contains a lot of phosphoric acid, which flushes calcium out of the bones. With its help, soda is often acidified (especially with apple and lemon flavors).

What is the use of such a drink?

An important issue is that carbonated drinks are constantly and actively advertised in the media. Children are very susceptible to advertising and want to taste the bright water in a beautiful bottle, which is often shown on TV. There is no need to condemn or scold children for this. It is better to try to explain to them in a calm atmosphere what happens to the body when drinking such drinks.

One of the most effective examples is cleaning a kettle or plumbing. For example, some housewives pour Coca-Cola into the toilet or sink at night in order to see the cleanest plumbing in the morning. Carbonated water also removes scale in a kettle and a saucepan well. You need to pour a little (maybe a third of the container) highly carbonated liquid (preferably a sprite, Coca-Cola or phantom) and boil the kettle. The scale will disappear, or at least become much less than usual. If a child sees the results of these experiments, most likely, he will think about what happens to his stomach after drinking soda. Well, of course, another proven method to wean children from such a harmful drink is the parents' own example.
