Cutting grass in the form of mulch has several advantages:

• minimizes moisture evaporation.
The main advantage of mulching with grass is the ability to start the process of humus formation. A few weeks after laying the first layer at high temperatures and humidity, the development and activation of microorganisms begins. The thickness of the layer under the plant should not be more than 8 cm. Too thin a layer (up to 3 cm) does not give the desired effect: weeds continue to grow, the moisture level is not maintained, the soil overheats / cools. Too thick mulch blocks air exchange, contributes to overheating of the root system.
Rule # 2
The herb is used pre-dried / dried for 1-2 weeks. If you put freshly cut raw materials under the plants, then in the process of watering, mold will appear, rotting will begin, this will attract pests, and a favorable environment for the development of diseases / bacteria is also formed. Weed seeds trapped in the grass mass, with proper drying, lose their germination and will not germinate in the beds.

Grass mulch needs to be replenished periodically. Under the influence of moisture and the work of microorganisms, the layer of laid grass sits down and decreases. Once every 2-3 weeks, the height of the mulch should be checked; when the thickness is reduced to 3-4 cm, add fresh material.
What plants can be mulched with grass
When using herbal waste in the beds, it is important to know which plants this option is suitable for. The environment that the cut grass forms is favorable for carrots, fruit trees, potatoes, berry crops and bushes (raspberries, currants, blackberries, etc.).
Herbal mulch, laid under vegetables (tomatoes, eggplants, peppers, etc.) should be spilled with a solution of Baikal or another biological product. It is not recommended to mulch zucchini, pumpkins, watermelons, and other melons with grass - this leads to rotting of the stem and fruits.
Examples of using mulch
Tomatoes, in the exhaust gas, are mulched only on well-heated ground (+20), in the greenhouse, when the stem height is more than 10 cm. To increase the yield, it is advisable to lay a green manure mixture under the tomatoes: rapeseed, lupine, alfalfa, white mustard, clover, rye.
