Geranium is a rather unpretentious plant that grows well both in pots and in open ground. Used for landscaping offices and flower beds. And all thanks to the lush and long-lasting flowering. But sometimes the plant refuses to bloom. What to do in this case?

Reasons for the lack of flowering

Let's first understand the reasons that lead to a prolonged lack of flowering in geraniums. There are several of them:

-lighting. This plant is very fond of places with good illumination, but does not treat direct sunlight very well. No, she will not die under them, of course, and will even bloom. But the flowers will quickly fade and will not look very attractive, since direct sunlight burns delicate petals. Therefore, choose a well-lit place in partial shade for the flower.

- improper watering. Geranium is one of those flowers that do not like excessive moisture, it is better to let it dry out than overmoisten it. Strongly wet soil will cause the plant's root system to rot. If this is not corrected in time, the geranium may die. Here she is not up to flowering!

- decay of roots. The first reason for this phenomenon is described above. The second reason is flexible disease. The third is the wrong composition of the soil.

- incorrectly selected pot. Geranium does not like very large spaces (the exception is a plant planted in open ground), so do not take a large pot "for growth". This plant feels much more comfortable in a small container.

- feeding, wrong and irregular, also lead to a lack of colors. Geranium, like other plants, is very fond of fertilizers. But here you need to be extremely careful not to overdo it with nitrogen: with its excess, the plants perfectly build up the green mass, but they will never bloom. Therefore, pay attention to the composition of your fertilizer with which you indulge geraniums: the amount of nitrogen in it should not exceed 10-11%. And do not forget that the optimal feeding frequency is once every two weeks.

- incorrect pruning and lack of winter dormancy … In autumn, be sure to prune the plant, do not spare the old stems (strong pruning cannot be done only on the royal geranium!). Then, after pruning, place the plant in a cool place for winter rest. Let him sleep a little. And in January, you can bring a pot of geraniums into a warm room.

- pests. If all of the above does not work, then carefully inspect the plant and soil for the presence of pests. Most often, geraniums settle: spider mites, aphids and whiteflies. You can try to destroy them using special chemicals. But if black or root rot "settled" on the geranium, then you will have to part with the flower. Not only are these diseases not amenable to treatment, they also quickly spread to neighboring plants and affect them.

What to do to make geranium bloom

If you are doing everything correctly and none of the above is observed, and geranium still does not bloom, then try the following:

feed the geranium with magnesium sulfate, it has a good effect on the growth of buds, on the brightness of the color of flowers and leaves, and prolongs flowering.

feed the geranium with iodine, but strictly observe the dosage! The solution for irrigation is prepared in the following proportions: dissolve 1 drop of iodine in 1 liter of water. Then pour water over the geranium (this is done to avoid scalding the root system), and then pour the iodine solution. For watering 1 geranium bush, use 40-50 ml of iodine solution.

If your flower is completely healthy and all of the above did not help, then just try to move the plant to another place. Move it until the buds appear. As soon as the first buds are tied, do not touch the plant!
