Description of the alternate-leaved spleen

The alternate-leaved spleen is known under many popular names: egg blossom, golden leaf, hernial herb, selennik, devil's silver, devil's gold, mold, chicken blindness, golden spleen and primrose. The alternate-leaved spleen is a perennial short-haired herb, endowed with a thin rhizome, the height of which will fluctuate between five and fifteen centimeters. The stem of this plant is single, although sometimes there may be several such stems. Such a stalk of the alternate-leaved spleen is erect, it can be either naked or endowed with rather sparse hairs below with one or three alternate leaves. The leaves of this plant are painted in light green tones, while below it will be paler, such leaves are rounded-reniform, they are endowed with a deep-heart-shaped base, and along the edge such leaves will be shallow-lobed. The basal leaves of the alternate-leaved spleen are not numerous and endowed with long petioles, while the stem leaves will be short-petiolate. The upper leaves of this plant are painted in greenish-yellow tones, they converge under the corymbose inflorescence in the form of a flat rosette, while the rosette itself is surrounded by such leaves. The flowers of the alternate-leaved spleen, in turn, are collected in a flat semi-umbrella and they are painted in yellow tones, while a nectar disc develops at the base of the stamens. The fruit of this plant is a polyspermous capsule.

The flowering of the alternate-leaved spleen occurs in the spring and at the beginning of the summer period. Under natural conditions, this plant is found in Belarus, the Far East, Ukraine, the Arctic, the European part of Russia, Western and Eastern Siberia.

Description of the medicinal properties of the alternate-leaved spleen

The alternate-leaved spleen is endowed with very valuable healing properties, while it is recommended to use the herb of this plant for medicinal purposes. Grass includes flowers, leaves and stems. It is recommended to procure such medicinal raw materials during the month of June. The presence of such valuable healing properties should be explained by the content in the composition of this plant of carbohydrates sedoheptulose, leukoanthocyanidins leukocyanidin and leukodelphinidin. Phenols and their derivatives are present in the leaves of the alternate-leaved spleen.

The spleen is endowed with a very effective astringent, diuretic, anti-inflammatory, hemostatic and expectorant effect. It is noteworthy that in the experiment it was proved that the extract of the herb of this plant will have the ability to manifest antibacterial activity, and the juice, in turn, will exhibit phytoncidal activity. As for traditional medicine, here this plant is very widespread. The infusion, prepared on the basis of the herb of the spleen, is indicated for use in urinary retention, coughing, cystitis, influenza, hemoptysis and urolithiasis.

An infusion of the herb of this plant is used for dizziness, respiratory infections, jaundice, and is also used as a general tonic after childbirth and an appetite stimulant.
