Polemonium (Latin Polemonium) - a flowering perennial from the cyanotic family. The second name is cyanosis.
Description
Polemonium is a very beautiful perennial raceme with strong erect stems, the height of the bushes of which ranges from twenty-five to seventy centimeters. Decorative wintering leaves of polemonium are evenly distributed along the entire length of the stems and boast quite large sizes - all these leaves are always alternate and pinnate.
The numerous flowers of polemonium form incredibly spectacular clusters-inflorescences (either corymbose or paniculate) and can be either blue or blue, or white or even yellow. When fully opened, each flower is bell-shaped and slightly tilts its head to the ground. Polemonium usually blooms in early summer, and the duration of its flowering reaches thirty days. And the fruits of this plant are nothing more than compact boxes generously filled with seeds.
In total, the genus polemonium has about fifty species.
Where grows
The homeland of polemonium is the damp meadows of Eurasia, and this beautiful plant is widespread in the temperate and cold zones of the Northern Hemisphere. Most often, it grows in humid places, on forest edges, in sparse forests and along river banks. However, it will not be difficult to see it even in the mountains!
Usage
Polemonium is an excellent decoration for flower beds and flower beds - that is why it is actively and very successfully used in decorative floriculture. This wonderful plant will look equally good in prefabricated flower gardens, and in group plantings, and in bouquets!
In folk medicine, this plant is widely used to cure a huge number of diseases. Polemonium boasts the ability to have a sedative, as well as a fairly powerful expectorant effect, which makes it possible to successfully use it in the treatment of acute chronic bronchitis. And in tandem with the marsh caddie, this handsome man is used to treat stomach ulcers.
Growing and caring
It is advisable to plant the polemonium in well-lit or semi-shaded areas, while this plant will feel great on the most ordinary garden soils. And since polemonium simply adores moisture, it will grow best in areas characterized by a relatively shallow groundwater table.
This handsome man is completely undemanding to care for, and for this he is very much loved by many gardeners. In addition, it boasts a very high winter hardiness, and in terms of lighting, the polemonium is also picky - it will grow well even under conditions of too long a day.
At the end of flowering, the upper parts of the stalks of the polemonium are cut off along with the inflorescences - this will allow new leaves and inflorescences to appear faster.
Polemonium can be propagated both by seeds, sowing them before winter, and by dividing the bushes, which is done either in the spring or closer to the end of the summer season. As for the planting density, nine plants are usually planted per square meter of area, lightly sprinkling the seeds with soil - germination of seedlings begins already at a temperature of plus four degrees. And polemonium quite often reproduces by self-seeding. It is quite permissible to sow the seeds of polemonium for seedlings - this is usually done in February or March, and in this case, the container with the sprouted seedlings will have to be sent to the refrigerator.
It is also important to know that in the first year of life the polemonium is characterized by very slow growth, but from the second year it will already grow by leaps and bounds!
