Platicodon also known as broadleaf bell. This culture belongs to perennial plants. This plant is especially valuable due to its large, double and rather simple flowers. Such flowers can be colored blue, blue, pink or white. In addition, many gardeners choose this plant due to its long flowering, which lasts for two months.

This plant belongs to crops of medium height: its height will not exceed fifty to sixty centimeters. However, it is also important to remember that if grown in the shade, the stems of the platycodon will stretch.

Description of the features of the care and cultivation of Platicodon

It should be noted that this plant is not particularly whimsical to care for, for this reason, many gardeners prefer the cultivation of Platicodon. To grow this plant, it is recommended to select sunny areas with loose, fertile and well-drained soil. As already mentioned, even in a very light shade, the stems of the platycodon will stretch, and the bush itself will lose all its former decorative effect.

It is very important to ensure good drainage for this plant, this circumstance should be associated with the fact that even the slightest stagnation of water can have an extremely negative effect on the development of Platicodon. As for watering, it should be moderate and watering will only be required as the soil dries up. Actually, it should be noted that for the development of this plant, it is better to dry the soil, but not excessively moisten it. In addition, the plant also needs regular feeding through mineral fertilizers. Such fertilizing is necessary for the plant in the period from May to July, about once a month. You will also need additional fertilizing with organic fertilizers: for example, compost, peat or humus are suitable. Such dressings must be applied in the spring or autumn: the soil around the bush is mulched. In order to prolong the flowering of this plant, it is recommended to promptly remove those flowers that have already bloomed.

If necessary, Platicodon bushes can be tied up. It is noteworthy that in one place this plant can grow for about seven years. The emergence of plant shoots occurs in late spring, which should not be forgotten. In the autumn, it is recommended to cut the stems of this plant and mulch the planting.

Reproduction of platycodon

Reproduction of this plant occurs through seeds. Such reproduction can be carried out both in April for seedlings, and before winter directly in open ground. When the plant is planted in the fall, the planting site should be mulched. It is recommended to sow seeds in boxes, in which there should be a loose substrate. Such boxes should be covered with films. Platycodon seeds need to be germinated in a fairly flat area and watering should be done in moderation. As soon as the first shoots appear, the seedlings should be kept in a bright place at room temperature.

Seedlings or seedlings from sowing in the autumn period of time should be planted in open ground at the end of May or at the beginning of July directly to a permanent place, due to the fact that the plant is rather poorly tolerated by transplantation. When choosing propagation by means of seeds, the flowering of platycodon will begin after a year or two.

If the plant is transplanted directly into open ground, then until the rooting of this plant occurs, it is important for it to provide shading from direct sunlight. Watering the plant will be required in moderation.
