Lofant sometimes also known under the name of agastakhisa. Lofant is a perennial plant, however some varieties can be grown as annuals.

The height of the lofant can sometimes even reach more than one and a half meters. It is worth noting that the plant is endowed not only with excellent decorative qualities, but also has very valuable medicinal properties. Quite often, the lofant is also used for the preparation of various dishes. Lofant is endowed with a very pleasant aroma, and its colors are painted in rather bright colors. It is worth noting that, among other things, the lofant is also an excellent honey plant. In culture, the most widespread is the anise lofant.

Description of the features of the care and cultivation of a lofant

The best option for growing this plant will be sunny areas, which will contain very well-drained soil. It is noteworthy that the lofant can also develop quite favorably on poor soils, however, in order for the plant to be the most decorative, well-drained soils will be required. Watering the lofant is necessary in a moderate mode, while it will be very important to prevent the slightest stagnation of water. Throughout the summer period, it is important to provide the plant with regular weeding, as well as loosening the soil. The soil should be loosened after watering the lofant.

If the plant is not planned to be prepared in order to use it in cooking, then regular feeding with mineral fertilizers will be required. Such dressings should be done about two to three times throughout the summer season. As for the organic fertilizers themselves, both compost and humus can be used as them. Such fertilizers must be applied either before planting, or in the fall as mulch.

It is recommended to cut the ground part of this plant around the middle of September. For the winter period, it is important to provide the lofant with a dry, light shelter using either foliage or spruce branches. It is noteworthy that not all varieties of this plant are resistant to winter cooling. For this reason, even if there is a shelter, the plant is not always able to survive the winter favorably.

Reproduction of a lofant

Reproduction of this plant can occur not only by means of seeds, but also with the help of stem cuttings, as well as by dividing the bush. As for sowing seeds, it should be done at the very beginning of April, this will require containers filled with fertile soil. It is necessary to germinate seeds at a temperature of about twenty to twenty-two degrees of heat, while the moisture should be quite moderate. When two pairs of true leaves appear, it is time to pick the seedlings into separate pots. After the threat of frost has completely passed, it is necessary to plant the seedlings already in open ground. In this case, the distance between the landings should be about twenty to twenty-five centimeters.

It is noteworthy that in addition to this, during the reproduction of the lofant by means of seeds, it is also possible to plant seedlings directly in the open ground, which should be done already in the month of May. The seeds will need to be deepened by about two centimeters. After the emergence of seedlings, if necessary, it is recommended to thin out the plantings.

As for reproduction by dividing the bush, such measures are recommended to be taken either in the spring or in the autumn period. Moreover, each delenka should have a fairly developed root system, which will have about five renewal buds. Until complete rooting, the plant will need regular watering.
