Godetia (Latin Godetia) - a flowering herb from the Cyprus family. Godetia got its name in honor of Godet, a Swiss botanist who studied and subsequently classified this wonderful flower.

Description

Godetia is a herbaceous plant with thin, but at the same time quite strong and branched stems, which, closer to the end of flowering of the plant, begin to lignify below. And the height of this beauty usually ranges from thirty to ninety centimeters. Numerous lanceolate leaves of godetia at the edges are always irregularly sparsely toothed, painted in gray-green shades and endowed with small red veins.

Godetia flowers, reaching eight centimeters in diameter, boast a rather interesting wide-cornered or cupped shape. They are collected in spectacular brushes located at the very tips of the shoots, and can be either double or simple. And the color of flowers of godetia can be as varied as you like - and lilac, and pink, and white, and red-purple, etc. Moreover, sometimes there are two-color specimens! As for the duration of flowering, godetia usually pleases with its luxurious flowers, from June to the very frost.

Where grows

The main habitat of godetia is the western part of North America.

Usage

Most often, godetia is grown in gardens (it feels great in central Russia) or as a container plant. It will look no worse in bouquets or arrangements, making them much more touching and delicate. High varieties of godezia will look great in mixborders, while low varieties are often planted along the paths.

But in a cut, godetia can stand for a very short time - only from one to four days, while ideally it is best to store it in the refrigerator, which is far from always possible and advisable. In a vase, it is usually placed in a small amount of water, which should be at room temperature, and before placing the godetia in the vase, its stems must be trimmed, and the lower leaves must be removed. The water needs to be changed often, but at the same time it is necessary not to forget that godetia has a tendency to decay.

Growing and caring

When growing godetia, it is extremely important to take care of intense lighting. This beauty will develop especially well in open sunny areas. And the most suitable soils for growing it will be loamy. It does not hurt to know that godetia really does not like prolonged rains or too much heat.

The godetia is watered regularly and abundantly, trying in every possible way to prevent stagnation of water. Also, this plant needs to be periodically fed with high-quality fertilizers. And in order to prolong the flowering of godetia to the maximum, its ovaries should be regularly pinched.

Reproduction of godetia usually occurs by seeds, which can be sown directly into the ground at the end of April or at the beginning of May. It is quite permissible to grow this plant through seedlings, only you need to sow seedlings a little earlier - in March, planting seeds in humus soil. Evenly distributing the seeds over the soil surface, carefully sprinkle them with a small amount of soil or sand. And then the crops should be covered with glass or foil. And already in June, the godetia will delight you with its magnificent flowering!

Sometimes godetia can be attacked by various leaf-eating insects, therefore, for preventive purposes, it is extremely important to carry out timely weeding, eliminating all weeds found there from the site.
