Grace of the White Flower

The Amaryllis family never ceases to amaze flower growers with their art of creating amazing masterpieces. Among them, graceful flowers of Belotsvetnik occupy a worthy place. Their graceful broad milky bells humbly droop to the surface of the earth. With a short lifespan, they have invented a simple way to delight the world from spring to autumn by dividing into seasonal species

Genus Belotsvetnik

The genus White flower (Leucojum) is not numerous and is represented by bulbous plants with a short period of active life. The small, rounded bulb gives birth to dark green linear leaves, which are sometimes almost threadlike. The leaves, as a rule, appear at the same time as the peduncle, which presents the world with a graceful bell. Its milky white petals are adorned with yellow or green pea spots along the edge.

The short life of the white flower is compensated by its seasonal species, replacing each other as the seasons alternate. The summer view replaces the spring one, and in the fall it gives way to the autumn white flower plant in the sun. No matter what tricks nature goes to to decorate the Earth.

Unfortunately, people do not always help nature, but, on the contrary, destroy the fruits of its creativity, being carried away by excessive collection of plants. Therefore, the white flower was included in the Red Data Books of many territories. But there are always people trying to support nature by growing plants that are disappearing from the wild in their flower beds.

Seasonal species of white flower

Spring white flower (Leucojum vernum) - this type of white flower is most often found in flower beds. Many consider it a snowdrop for the milky whiteness of the petals and its early appearance in nature. Not all of the snow has left the dacha spaces yet, and dark green belt-like leaves and peduncles, carrying single, less often more, white-milk bells, reach out to the sun from the soil. The monotony of white is broken by yellow or green pea spots located on the tips of delicate petals. Flowers modestly bow down to earthly life and after three weeks say goodbye to it.

Summer white flower (Leucojum aestivum) - after the retired spring white flower in late May, belt-like dark green leaves of the summer white flower appear. On an erect peduncle, there are few-flowered inflorescences of white flowers, decorated with green spots.

Autumn white flower (Leucojum autumnale) - the autumn white flower plant finishes the summer cottage season, dissolving its flowers with a pinkish tint by the end of August. Throughout September, dark green linear leaves and graceful flowers delight the world.

Growing

Moisture-loving white flowers in spring and summer prefer to hide in partial shade, preferring the open sun only in autumn. They withstand high and low temperatures equally well.

Soils for them need rich organic matter, loose and moist. Only the autumn white flower can do without regular watering, but the other two species constantly need moist soil.

The bulbs of the autumn white flower are planted to a depth of 5 cm in late summer, and summer and spring bulbs - to a depth of 10 cm in the fall. Do not dig up the bulbs for the winter to store them indoors. They overwinter perfectly in the soil and will delight with flowering for many years, being located in one place. The bulbs can be removed only to separate the children once every couple of years, returning the mother immediately back to the ground.

Usage

White flowers will decorate a lawn or lawn with their grace; harmoniously fit into the interior of a rocky garden or rock garden; will become an elegant border for a flower garden or garden path.

They can be grown in pots to decorate balconies, terraces and garden pavilions.

Reproduction

You can propagate by seeds, but then the flowering plant will delight you in a few years.

It is easier and more reliable to propagate by children, which should be separated from the mother's bulb every 2-3 years.

Diseases and pests

Like all bulbous plants, a white flower can pick up gray rot.

They love to feast on the white-flowered nematode bulbs and the larvae of the daffodil fly.
