White flower (lat. Leucojum) - a small genus of bulbous plants with a short growing season and milky white graceful bell-shaped flowers. The short growing season is compensated by species that bloom in different seasons of the year, thereby prolonging their presence on Earth.

What's in your name

The name of the genus "White flower" perfectly conveys the meaning of the Latin name "Leucojum", which is based on the Greek word meaning "milky white" in translation into Russian.

Description

The plant is given life by a round, multi-scaled bulb of small size, hiding in the soil. When the time for awakening comes, linear leaves are selected from the bulb to the surface of the earth, sometimes reaching threadlike, dark green in color.

Almost simultaneously with the leaves, the peduncle hurries to appear in the world with a bunch of milky-white graceful bells, which are sometimes confused with the Snowdrop. But the flowers of the White Flower differ from the Snowdrop in green or yellow markings on the edge of the petals. It seems that, creating the petals of the White Flower, the Almighty accidentally spilled small peas, and they settled on the petals of the plant.

The short growing season ends with a fleshy fruit - a box with black seeds.

Although the plant took good care of the continuation of its presence on the planet, creating two options for its revival (seeds and bulbs), people managed to greatly exterminate the population of Belotsvetnik, which was the reason for the plant to be included in the Red Data Books of a number of regions of Russia.

Types of White Flower

* Autumn white flower (lat. Leucojum autumnale) - white bells with a pinkish tint appear in the world at the end of summer to delight flower growers with their grace throughout September.

* Spring white flower (lat. Leucojum vernum) - is especially popular, showing its delicate flowers - bells literally from under the snow, which has not yet completely melted under the spring sun. Therefore, they are often mistaken for Snowdrops, if they do not know that the Creator marked the milky-white petals of the White Flower with yellow or green peas. Belt-like dark green leaves guard the peduncle, on which most often only one bell sits, less often there are several of them. They bow their graceful heads to the surface of the earth, as if embarrassed by their courage. After three weeks, the plant's growing cycle ends, and the aerial part of the plant dies, leaving seeds and a bulb until the next revival.

* Summer white flower (lat. Leucojum aestivum) - takes over flowering at the end of May, showing all the same belt-like leaves and milky white bells, marked along the edge of the petals with green spots - peas.

Growing

All types of White flower are moisture-loving plants, so the spring and summer look will feel better in the shade of other plants, hiding from the hot sun. In the fall, when the sun starts to "cheat", White flower will be more comfortable in a sunny place. White flower, like a good athlete, is not afraid of either cold or heat.

As for the soil, here the plant begins to put forward conditions, preferring to live on fertile, moist, loose ones. If there is enough moisture in the fall and without watering, then in the spring and summer the plant should be watered regularly, maintaining soil moisture, but avoiding dampness that provokes fungal diseases.

Unlike the bulbs of many plants, which have to be dug up for the winter and stored indoors, the bulbs of the White Flower winter well in the soil. They dig them out only when they want to separate the children in order to assign them to a new place or share with their friends. Having separated the children, the mother's bulb is returned to its original place.

Enemies

Dampness, that is, excessive moisture, provokes fungal diseases.

The larvae of the daffodil fly can eat the bulbs of the White Flower. Also nematodes are the enemy.
