Getting to know the plant

White ocheret is a friable perennial endowed with scaly rhizomes, representing the sedge family. The height of its sinewy and rather strong triangular stems ranges from ten to forty centimeters, and the width of the narrow-linear leaves of this plant reaches 1 - 2 mm. These grooved linear leaves can be either stem or basal.

Inflorescences of this beautiful plant form from two to eight slightly spaced or one apical spikelet. Filmy covering ovate-elliptical scales are whitish at the edges, turning brown at fruit and pointed at the tops. Often, one top flake and one to three bottom flakes are sterile. All scales are arranged in spikelets in two rows or spirally.

How to grow

It is best to plant white ossicles on damp banks, swamps and shallow waters. This is done, as a rule, with the onset of spring. It is usually planted in containers, and the planting depth is from two and a half to five centimeters. As far as the soil is concerned, it can grow on almost any soil, from swampy to sandy. However, slightly acidic loamy soils are the most suitable for its cultivation.

Once every few years, it must be divided, since a radial growth is characteristic of the white osshelet.

The white willow is rather winter-hardy, but in the open field it is able to winter only in the southern regions of Russia. And in the middle lane, it should be placed for the winter in a container with water on light cool windowsills or in a cold greenhouse.

In care, the white ossuary is very unpretentious. It is incredibly flexible - this feature makes it capable of withstanding both summer drought and periodic flooding. However, despite its unpretentiousness, this bizarre plant reacts very positively to monthly feeding. As for the lesions by pests and various diseases, those were not observed in this plant, respectively, in this regard, the white ossum would not cause absolutely any trouble.
