The spreading hermit is ubiquitous in central Russia. It grows, as a rule, on marshy or well-moistened soils, on arable lands and meadows. Often they look at it as the most ordinary marsh grass, which is due to its rather nondescript appearance, but this plant is fraught with a lot of useful properties. It is thanks to them that it has become quite widespread in homeopathy, as well as in folk medicine

Getting to know the plant

This herbaceous perennial is a rather interesting family Sitnikovye. The branchy creeping rhizomes of the spreading rhizome are rather densely soddy, and the cylindrical stems are smooth and rather rigid, with thin grooves when dry and with brownish wrappers at the bases. The height of the stems ranges from half a meter to one and a half meters. Usually from each rhizome there are several stems forming bunches.

Single, medium-sized and regular flowers of this peculiar plant are conveniently located on slightly elongated peduncles gathering in amusing spreading panicles. All perianths in the spreading rush have a corolla-shaped shape, and are also endowed with rusty rims and consist of six green linear-lanceolate leaves. This moisture-loving perennial blooms from June to July. And his fruits look like brownish obovate capsules filled with brownish oblong seeds.

In addition to the fact that this plant has long been used in the household for weaving fairly durable mats and rugs, the spreading rush is also well known in homeopathy and, of course, in folk medicine. For medicinal purposes, mainly its rhizomes are used, harvested in the fall: in folk medicine they are used dried, and in homeopathy - raw. The rhizomes of this moisture lover contain soluble silicates (in particular, silicon compounds) and various tannins.

The rhizomes of this green assistant added to all kinds of medicinal preparations and medicinal teas are used in folk medicine to cure kidney stones. Along with other plants, it has found application in the treatment of inflammation of the bladder. And in homeopathy made from fresh rhizomes with a special essence, stones are removed from the urinary tract.

To prepare a decoction of rhizomes, take a tablespoon of well-crushed rhizomes of the common rhizome and the same amount of naked licorice, as well as corn stigmas, bearberry and birch leaves - all in equal proportions. All the ingredients are poured with a glass of cold water, after which soda (of course, drinking) is added to the resulting composition - a little, on the tip of a knife. The resulting mass is boiled for half an hour, after which it is properly filtered and cooled. And they use the cooked broth five times a day for a quarter of a glass. With inflammatory processes in the bladder, as well as with kidney stones, he is able to work wonders.

It is allowed to grow spreading rushes both on land and directly in the water of garden ponds. It will look great near aquatic vegetation with wide leaves - egg-pods, water lilies, marsh marigold, water paint, calla and others. Sunny areas are most preferred for growing this green pet. It will feel equally good both outdoors and in containers. Rhizomes of varietal varieties are placed in reservoirs below the water level by five to ten centimeters, and species varieties can be lowered deeper - up to twenty centimeters.

This plant propagates both by seeds and by dividing the bushes throughout the growing season.

The spreading rush is characterized by excellent winter hardiness. In winter, its shoots simply die off, and in spring it is necessary to remove dry stems of plants. Among the advantages of this plant, one can also highlight its ability to perfectly purify water, protecting it from the development of blue-green algae.
