Pine is a long-liver of the planet

There are very few days left before Christmas and New Year. Shopping centers and city squares have already acquired the main attribute of the holiday - evergreen Christmas trees. There are places on the planet where the Pine, an amazing long-liver, decorating the Earth for hundreds of millions of years, plays the role of the Christmas tree

To the envy of man

Since ancient times, people have been looking for the "elixir of life" to extend their stay on the amazingly beautiful planet Earth. Although the life expectancy of people has increased significantly when compared, for example, with the dark period of the Middle Ages, a person is still very far from the life expectancy of some representatives of the plant world.

Apparently, in order to manage to live for 4000 (four thousand) years, as is the case with individual representatives of the coniferous kingdom of the planet with the mysterious name "Pinus", which in Russian sounds like "Pine", one should live on Earth for 130 (one hundred thirty) million years as the mighty resinous tree did.

Diverse representatives of the Pine genus

Over such a long period, Pine has managed to create many different species on the planet, genetically related, but differing in some external details. Such differences are determined by the living conditions in which, by the will of fate, trees have to grow.

Botanists, who have created multivolume libraries, are engaged in a detailed description of plants. In thick books, you can not only learn about the abilities and qualities of each plant that managed to get into the field of vision of meticulous and inquisitive people, but also get acquainted with their appearance by looking at drawings or photographs.

We will only slightly touch this wealth accumulated by Humanity for many centuries.

Siberian cedar pine

The Latin name for this species consists of only two words "Pinus sibirica". But, the Russian discoverers of the Siberian taiga, having met a huge resinous fragrant tree on their way, could not resist the temptation and added the word "cedar" to the name. They were prompted to such an addition by comparing the size of the Siberian Pine with the mighty Lebanese cedars, which genetically have no connection with the pines. But the science of "genetics" was born much later than the discovery of the tree.

Siberian pine is associated with delicious and nutritious pine nuts, with aromatic cedar oil, with the healing scent of taiga, without requiring verbosity.

Sand pine

Sandy pine (Pinus clausa) cannot boast of either height or article, growing to a maximum of 21-27 meters, which does not happen often, but can share endurance and the ability to live in extreme conditions with a person.

It is easier for it to be a branchy shrub, because it grows on the barren sandy soil of the southeastern part of the United States, exposing its crown to the scorching rays of the sun. Very few plants are able to survive in such a place.

Individual subspecies of Sand Pine with short branches covered with dark green needles are grown by humans for commercial purposes. On Christmas Day, they play the role of Christmas trees, under which the Almighty, with the hands of Santa Claus, lays out gifts.

Lambert pine

It turns out that Pines are not only resinous, but also sweet. These include the Lambert Pine (Pinus lambertiana), which is popularly called "Sugar pine" for the sweet juice flowing through the vessels of the tree. Some people think that sweet maple sap is inferior in quality to Lambert Pine sap.

This is not the end of the wonderful abilities of this type of Pine. Among all the Pines of the planet, the Lambert Pine is the tallest. The current champion stands at 83.45 meters tall, towering over other plants in California's Yosemite Park. Naturally, the tallest trunk is the thickest.

The longest cones of the Sugar Pine are a real miracle of nature. Their ordinary length up to 50 centimeters sometimes makes a "jerk", showing the world 66-centimeter cones filled with large edible nuts.
