Almost every garden has at least one gooseberry bush. Of course, gooseberries, like many other crops, need to be looked after. But it is far from always possible to protect him from destructive ailments. To understand what kind of ailment struck the spiny gooseberry bushes, it makes sense to familiarize yourself with the main symptoms of the most common diseases
Powdery mildew
An incredibly harmful disease, the first symptoms of which often appear immediately after flowering in spring. Young leaves and tiny shoots begin to be covered with a rather loose whitish bloom. By the way, initially such a plaque is easily erased, and after some time it also covers berries with ovaries, while capturing rather solid areas. Then the harmful plaque begins to gradually thicken, and as a result, it becomes like felt and is painted in dark brown or brownish tones.
Infected gooseberry shoots gradually bend and stop developing fully. And sometimes they dry up altogether. The leaves become quite fragile and quickly curl, and the tiny blooming berries stop their growth, crack and crumble in the shortest possible time.
If you do not start the fight against American powdery mildew in time, then sick gooseberry bushes will certainly die in a couple of years. And you should fight this scourge throughout the season - the harmful spores that provoke infection with it are not afraid of either heat or frost.
White spot
On the leaves of the gooseberry, a lot of rounded grayish specks framed with dark edges are formed. And a little later, you can notice on them numerous dark dots containing spores of the causative agent of this disease. The leaves begin to curl gradually, and then dry out and fall off prematurely, and after a while the gooseberry bushes remain completely bare.
Anthracnose
When affected by this fungal disease, dark brown and very vague small spots appear on the gooseberry leaves. As the harmful misfortune develops, they merge, and the leaves begin to dry out and prematurely leave their native bushes. And only at the very tips of the shoots can you see three or four lonely looking leaves.
Berry bushes attacked by anthracnose are characterized by a significant decrease in the growth of young shoots and a significant decrease in the sugar content of the berries. Accordingly, one can only dream of a good harvest.
Mosaic
The gooseberry leaves attacked by this viral disease are abundantly covered with bizarre bright yellow patterns along the main veins. At the same time, berry bushes bear fruit extremely unimportantly, and the leaves on them become wrinkled and very small.
Unfortunately, it is not possible to completely cure this ailment, therefore it is recommended that infected bushes be immediately dug up and immediately burned.
Goblet rust
On the gooseberry leaves, bright orange specks gradually appear, densely covered with yellow pads of mushroom spores. And after a while they take the form of tiny glasses. The leaves, as a result of the defeat of goblet rust, become ugly and quickly fall off. The berries also change - they become one-sided, stop developing and, drying out, immediately fall from the bushes. As a rule, after being defeated by this scourge, a good harvest does not have to wait for the next season.
Verticillary wilting
This ailment affects all conducting vessels and the root system of gooseberry bushes. Despite the fact that the leaves turn yellow and wither quickly, they do not crumble from the bushes, continuing to remain on the affected branches.
