The indigenous people of Altai, where Rhodiola rosea grows, carefully concealed from the newcomers the place of her residence, the ways of using the herb for medicinal purposes, shrouding information in secrets that often, together with its bearer, left for another world. But in the second half of the 20th century, when the people of Soviet science discovered the Golden Root in the Altai mountains, the study of this plant and its use in scientific medicine began. Today, many summer residents grow Rhodiola rosea as an ornamental plant in their summer cottages. Moreover, the most effective type of reproduction is sowing seeds before winter. So, you still have a chance to acquire this unique plant
Habit
No wonder one of the names of the plant contains the word "root". Adult Rhodiola rosea has a large tuberous tuberous rhizome, equipped with adventitious roots. For the sake of these healing roots, entire expeditions were equipped to search for Chinese emperors, who dreamed of improving their body, so that they had enough strength to manage a huge and densely populated territory. The value of the roots was equated to the value of gold and was smuggled across state borders with great secrecy and caution. And the root is called "golden" for its color, reminiscent of bronze or old gilding. Fresh roots and harvested dry roots exude a scent reminiscent of a tea rose.
Erect numerous stems without lateral shoots, 25 to 50 centimeters high, filled with sap and covered with a dense brush of leaves. The leaves are not inferior in juiciness to the stem and sit firmly on it in the next order. The dimensions of the leaves are small, their width is up to 1 centimeter, the length is up to 3.5 centimeters. Glaucous fleshy leaves have an oblong or elliptical shape, sometimes they are pointed, have solid edges, or serrate-toothed edges in the upper part of the leaf.
Multiflorous corymbose inflorescences of yellow color reach 6 centimeters in diameter. Fruits are greenish multileafs with small seeds.
The predatory stockpiles of the Golden Root severely undermined its earthly reserves. Today this plant is under protection. The growing popularity of growing Rhodiola in gardens can prolong the life of the plant.
Growing
The golden root, grown in the mountains, is not picky about soil fertility and grows well on medium fertile soils. It develops better in sunny places, but does not shy away from partial shade. The golden root is a lover of moisture, and therefore needs watering.
The plant is hardy, not requiring shelter for the winter.
Propagated by seeds, root cuttings and bush division. The experience of Altai biologists has proven that the most effective way of reproduction is sowing seeds before winter. Plants planted in this way increase the weight of the rhizome by almost 20 times.
When propagated by root cuttings, they are dried during the day before planting in the shade of air-blown canopies.
Use in the garden
The golden root is a succulent plant with an unusual appearance. In May-June, when the erect stems are covered with yellow inflorescences, the plant is especially decorative. But its fruit-leaflets are also cute, ripening in the second half of summer and having a greenish or reddish tint.
The radiola looks most impressive among the stones of the alpine slide and at the retaining walls. It will be appropriate on the leading edge of small mixborders. It is quite suitable for a rabatka. Decorate the banks of a stream or a decorative reservoir. May be suitable for creating a small independent curtain.
Young leaves are added to salads.
Medical use
The golden root is almost a panacea. Preparations based on it have psychostimulating and calming effects. They increase a person's working capacity, increase the body's resistance to poisoning, overheating, nervous overload, that is, they strengthen the immune system, which more successfully resists the effects of extreme factors. Help drugs and men for the treatment of sexual dysfunctions.
For the preparation of medicinal tinctures, the roots of adult plants with more than two stems are dug when the aboveground part of the plant dies off.
Contraindicated with hypertension, high temperature, strong nervous excitement. Also should not be taken in the afternoon.

Beet Root Aphid - A Thunderstorm Of Root Crops
Beet root aphid is an ubiquitous pest that attacks quinoa and other swan plants in addition to beets. It is considered especially dangerous because in a relatively short period of time from May to October, it is capable of giving from eight to ten generations. As a rule, the number of these parasites increases markedly in July and August. The vegetation attacked by them withers and dies, which adversely affects the harvest of long-awaited root crops
