In terms of lighting, the plant is not very picky, although it loves the sun very much, due to which, if grown in partial shade, the bird cherry will soon lean closer to the illuminated area. The culture also needs pollination, which is why it is required to plant another tree of a different variety next to it.

Bird cherry is characterized by strong and powerful roots. As a result, in dry weather, the plant does not experience a lack of moisture. Therefore, you can choose absolutely any soil for growing crops. However, bird cherry grows much better in cultivated and loose types of land. As the most favorable, you need to select a soil with a neutral or slightly acidic reaction. You should not plant a tree in places where groundwater occurs.

Planting bird cherry

Experienced gardeners recommend planting a tree in the fall season (September). Although there is a spring planting in April, which also takes place if the seedling has open roots. If the purchased plant is in a container, then you can plant it in the open air at any time of the summer season.

A hole for planting a tree must be prepared in advance (about fourteen days before planting a crop). It should be dug out in such a way that the roots of the tree can fit freely inside it. The approximate parameters of the hole are forty by fifty centimeters. It is required to fill the hole with a top layer of fertile soil mixture, consisting of compost, sand and peat. Mineral-type fertilizer should also be added here - about one hundred grams per hole. The components must be mixed very thoroughly.

Before the planting process itself, it is necessary to soak the bird cherry seedling in a special solution from a preparation that stimulates the growth of the tree. They can serve as epin, root, and others. If the seedlings have an open root system, then the soaking time is six to twelve hours. In the case of purchasing bird cherry in a pot, half an hour is enough. Sore or broken branches near the tree should be cut with an oblique cut to the place under the bud. The ends on the root processes should also be trimmed. This will help the root system develop better later. Rotten and diseased roots should be cut before the healthy area begins.

The bird cherry is planted in a hole in such a way that the neck of the root system does not lie too deep. It should be located either on the top layer of the soil, or a couple of centimeters above it. After planting, the hole with bird cherry must be watered abundantly with a large volume of water. Then you need to thoroughly mulch the soil. If several plants are planted together, then the distance between them should be at least two meters.
