In the last decade of December - early January, lily bulbs planted for distillation and left in dark basements or greenhouses at a temperature of about + 5 ° C are moved to a cool room. At this time, their stems are already beginning to grow. And in order not to delay the moment of the beginning of flowering, it is necessary to provide the plants with the necessary care during this period
Technologies for winter forcing lilies
Watering the bulbs until the sprouts appear is carried out moderately so that the bulbs do not rot. With the appearance of sprouts, it is necessary to provide the plants with a well-lit place in the room. As soon as they reach a height of 10 cm, you need to add earth to the pots. It is advisable to fix this date and make yourself a reminder that after 5 days you will need to feed. To do this, you can use a solution of poultry manure: 1 part of raw materials to 40 parts of water. Fertilizer is applied again after a week and a half.
Other means are also used as top dressing. You can use cow dung, ammonium nitrate or complete mineral fertilizer - during this period, the flowers need nitrogen.
After that, each next feeding is carried out twice a week and continues until the petals of the closed buds begin to take on the characteristic color of the variety. When forcing, the buds are formed in about a month from the day of planting, and the petals bloom after another three to four weeks.
Features of the temperature regime during forcing
From the moment the stems stretch up to 10 cm and continue to grow up to 15 cm, the temperature of the content is maintained at about + 12 ° C. When the buds are tied on the shoots and the petals begin to change color, you need to increase the degree of heat until the thermometer stops at + 20 ° C.
But in order for the blossoming flowers to last longer, they again need to arrange a cool content - about + 7 … + 10 ° С. This technique will help extend the life of each individual flower up to one and a half to two weeks.
On average, the flowering period of one plant can last about four to five weeks. It is not necessary to take all the onion pots out of the cellar at once. This can be done throughout the month at intervals of one to two weeks. Thanks to this, your home will be decorated with new flowering plants for a long time.
After the lilies have faded, the bulbs are returned to the cellars. They are not cleared of the ground and stored so until the early spring frosts have passed. They can then be moved into open ground.
Why do lilies refuse to grow?
Quite often, mistakes in the first stages of forcing lilies doom to failure attempts to get a flowering plant in indoor conditions. First of all, this concerns the choice of planting material. Since the distillation will be carried out during an unnatural flowering period for the plant, only the best bulbs should be selected: strong, tight, heavy. Soft, loose planting material will not be able to develop a strong peduncle and give good flowers.
The age of the flower also matters. For distillation, 2-year-old bulbs are dug out. This is done carefully so as not to damage the roots sitting in the ground. Planting material is recommended to be cleaned and processed with crushed charcoal. You also need to separate the formed children.
The technology of planting bulbs in pots is important. In particular, in order to enjoy the charming flowers of the white lily, its bulbs are planted just a little below the sides of the pot, and sprinkled with earth about 2.5 cm.
Landing lily regale, on the contrary, is carried out deeply. It is hidden under a layer of substrate of about 2 cm. The peculiarity of this variety is that it forms supra-luminal roots. And in the process of growth, you will need to add earth to them.
