Thanks to the beauty of its flowers, resistance to adverse conditions and amazing vitality, carnation is popular with flower growers. But, even the most unpretentious plants need human support in order to bloom more abundantly, delighting their assistants. Properly selected or well-formed soil is an essential element for successful plant growth
Soil selection
Heavy, clayey and sandy soils will not please our beauty. It prefers to grow on fertile, slightly acidic soils, which have the ability not to create stagnant water, but to easily allow it to seep into the depths. Therefore, if on your site there is a place with a slight slope, then it was created by nature just for the carnation. This place will be even more suitable for carnations if perennial grasses grew on it before.
Soil preparation
It is best to use an earthy mixture for growing cloves. To do this, we take one part of sod land and sand, plus two parts of humus and peat land.
Sod and peat soil, humus, sand can be bought in special farms, or you can try to cook them yourself if you have enough space for this on the site, time, desire and perseverance.
Cooking turf land
We harvest the sod land as follows. On the way to the dacha, we notice the places where the grass grows well. We stop the car and cut squares of sod 10-20 centimeters thick. At the summer cottage, we put the squares on top of each other according to the "grass to grass" principle, wetting each layer with slurry. The height of our workpiece should be no more than 1.5 meters. All summer we make sure that the layers of sod do not dry out. To do this, periodically shovel them, watering them with slurry. Next year we will have excellent sod land for planting plants.
Cooking humus
To get humus, we buy fresh manure and put it in the shade for one or two years. But do not forget about it, but two or three times over the summer we shovel it, sprinkling it with water. Before adding ready-made humus to the earthen mixture, it is advisable to sift it.
Cooking peat land
The preparation of the peat mixture will take more time than the preparation of humus. It takes two summers to turn peat into ready-to-eat peat land.
Having found a raised bog in the area, we cut the peat into pieces 25 centimeters thick. We water each layer with slurry, sprinkle 1 square meter of peat with 10-15 kg of phosphoric flour and 3-4 kg of lime. For two years we shovel the peat, watering it with slurry, and in the third summer, the peat land is ready to go to the flower garden.
Cooking sand
To prepare sand, we go to a lake or river with a sandy bottom.
Cooking leafy ground
For the cultivation and reproduction of carnations, sometimes they resort to the help of leafy land. You can also cook it yourself. To do this, remove a layer of soil with fallen leaves 5-6 centimeters thick under the forest trees. Having moistened and laid the layers similarly to other workpieces, the earth withstands one summer, periodically turning and moistening the layers.
The right amount of nutrients
In order for carnations to successfully grow and develop, with deep soil cultivation, which is carried out in the fall, the following amount of fertilizer must be applied per hectare of land: about 3 kg of nitrogen, 6 kg of phosphorus and 1.5 kg of potash.
When planting carnations on heavy and clayey soils, grooves are cut for seeds, which are filled with humus and sand, adding mineral fertilizers.
